By the 12th lesson my driving instructor told me its was about time to put in for my test

I'm pretty sure that if you were on a bit of road where you could maintain 25 in a 30 for a while and a cop car was behind you, they would pull you over and especially if you was causing a tailback.
My Brother In Law would do this, he would do 25 in a 30, 30 in a 40, 40 in a 60 and would always cause tailbacks but going down a side street I couldn't catch him (or didn't dare).

I believe if the conditions allow it then you should be driving at the speed limit. If they don't, then drop your speed until it is safe.

Driving below the speed limit when there is no reason to do so is odd, and unfortunately it will irritate other drivers and cause accidents. It's all well and good saying that they shouldn't get worked up, but equally you should be driving at the speed limit.

Tank, do you have a P sign on your car? When I see them, I leave extra room for the car and accept that they may be slower, more erratic and less comfortable on the road.

Can't wait for someone to get proper road rage at Tank, imagine someone getting out of their car to confront the driver and seeing a huge muscle bound hulk man glaring back at you. Proper poo pants time :D

Wow motors spills into GD.

Speed limit is the maximum, and then the driver should apply factors of weather etc themselves. The limit is NOT a target speed.

I agree that potentially someone driving under the limit causes accidents but I am afraid I fully believe that the people should leave enough time to do journeys and plan for eventualities, the most moronic people I see are those who fail to leave enough time and hence are maniacs on the road.

I love speed dont get me wrong, the fastest I have been on my privately owned stretch of road that looks spookily similar to the A11 is 170, just over infact, on a verified speedo.

Personally I get more annoyed by the people who drive too close than those who drive a bit slower. The slow ones aren't hard for me to overtake, the ones who drive to close to other cars I find cause me to have to be much more aware of what they are doing than those who just feel they want to maintain a slower speed.

remember its the limit, just a recap for those who forgot what that means : (source directgov highway code http://www.direct.gov.uk/en/TravelAndTransport/Highwaycode/DG_070304)

The speed limit is the absolute maximum and does not mean it is safe to drive at that speed irrespective of conditions. Driving at speeds too fast for the road and traffic conditions is dangerous. You should always reduce your speed when:
•the road layout or condition presents hazards, such as bends
•sharing the road with pedestrians, cyclists and horse riders, particularly children, and motorcyclists
•weather conditions make it safer to do so
•driving at night as it is more difficult to see other road users

Was just about to post that before seeing your post, it's something my Dad keeps saying to me :p. Driving say 25 in a thirty zone is perfectly fine although I would question their ability as a driver if they're going 35 in a 50 zone or below 20 in a 30.

Your right, the speed limit is not the target, its a suggestion lol

I got caught doing 90 on the motorway, got 3 points (it was 11pm) but have never crashed or come close, thus I see no reason why I should adjust my driving style. I don't drink drive and I don't speed through residential areas

That kid would probably overtake you in a residential area. :D

Become fully trained in 8 lessons with NO previous driving experience?

More like 20 to have enough experience to pass the test and then a couple of years to gain actual road experience.

Its reasons like people being afraid to do 30mph that makes motorbiking worth it for commuting. Quick nip round them and on you go.
