Armour plated jeans questions ..?

Strap on pads under the jeans will offer better protection that slot in armour, less likley to move away at the time you need it.

I use Forcefield Pro pads (leg tube type) and Icon Superduty 2 Jeans.

I've mentioned before but when I was looking for jeans and came across Hood, I found them really good to deal with, they sent me out some samples of the fabric they use and generally helped out in everyway.

I ended up going with Kyrano (a sister company of Hood) who did a fully lined pair of jeans, rather than the type that patches just the critical areas. Fit is great, but thankfully not had to test their abilities yet ;)

EDIT:They also sold the para-aramid/kevlar in leggings so you could wear them under normal jeans, but not sure if they had pockets for armour.

Did the Kyrano's cost £199

I wear draggins most of the time, however I have just learnt that ambulances don't carry shears to cut through kevlar. If they need to get your clobber off they have to take it off the hard and painful way, its making me reconsider.

I have a pair of Arlen Ness jeans, they have a useful amount of armour in the knees and some hip armour that make your hips look really wide, but is removable. The Kevlar material seems to have a decent amount of coverage as well.

I bought the cargo jeans version from them and they seem ok to me, they don't look too unlike normal jeans when wearing them. I hope I never find out what they're like sliding along the road.

I bought some hoods in the end.

They fit great and the quality is superb.

I got the ND4 and the look very modern not like dad jeans at all. I wore them to work today and everyone couldn't believe they were Kevlar lined. Worth the 40 extra over the ebay aussie ones without doubt.

I wanted to support a UK company too.

Will defo buy another pair from Hood

Wow they do look really nice, but a bit expensive ATM.

As I say 40 quid more than aussie biker but the whole jeans is lined with Kevlar not just certain areas.

Fit is great too, They feel great on the bike. 50 quid more than a pair of levis its a no brainer for your bike. The knee armour also fits great to.

Can't Fault them

Kevlar cloth isn't going to stop a pair of sharp medical scissors.

I've just tried cutting the kevlar padding from one of my old chainsaw gloves using some not particularly sharp scissors and it shears through easily enough.

Just found a review where a bloke talks of having his Draggin' shirt cut off him in the ambulance:

Unfortunately, this very shirt I reviewed was cut off me in an ambulance late last year. I found out the Kevlar itself is abrasive on skin when you hit the asphalt. The shirt didn't slide up, or come apart, but the inside of a Kevlar shirt itself will rub some skin off while protecting you from the asphalt. I still got some road rash, but it was clean & didn't need to be scrubbed out. You must wear a long sleeve T shirt under a Kevlar shirt to provide a soft layer of protection between your skin & the Kevlar. I still like Kevlar, and ordered a replacement that I'll wear over a long T shirt. It's much cooler than riding in leather, and far better than hitting the asphalt with just a long sleeve T shirt.

Yea it is completely different to leather. There was a test in a mag in the 80's, they got a linisher and made a jig to press a dummies hand against the belt. With leather gloves the linisher gradually wore though the leather, the score for gloves on test got based on how long it took to wear through them. They tried some pairs of kevlar gloves and the dummies hand got torn off! So they reconed kevlar gloves weren't a good idea.

I would expect kevlar to cut easier with blunt scissors, sometimes.
I had great difficulty cutting fine kevlar cloth for inside mudguards, someone told me to roughly sharpen the scissors with some coarse sand paper, they cut kevlar great.

When the armour jeans came out a mate bought a pair, he wore them once as we ripped the **** mercilessly about his child-bearing hips;-)

Anyone that has them?

1) Are they as safe as my leathers?
No. They're designed around looks and practicality rather than protection.
2) Do they make your legs look really fat as they are designed to look like normal jeans, but have armour plates in them? So basically you look like Mr Wierdo Fat-leg if going to something social like a party?
little bit of armour and they don't rip as easy as jeans.
3) Are they the kind of thing you could wear out to, say, a bar? That comfy? Also - if I biked out to a bar or the cinema, could I easily, without taking them off, somehow slide out the 'armour bits' and leave them in the back of the bike or anything? I don't want to stand in the high-street whilst wearing just my pants!!! So I am talking 'without taking them off'?? Would I be sitting in my cinema seat enjoying the film, or thinking 'This is a lot more uncomfortable than my normal jeans'?!?
no idea.

No but they are safer than normal jeans

No, When I'm in my hoods nobody has realised they are Kevelar jeans and were amazed when I told them. They just look like normal jeans

Yeah...You would wear jeans to a bar right? They are just like normal jeans.
Comfy yes just like normal jeans

But Mine are the Hoods,

I've been wearing Aussie biker jeans for quit a while now. They are very comfortable and are wearing very very well compared to my old Hood cargo pants,

I've just been out for a ride to Cheddar Gorge whilst wearing my Aussie biker jeans. They're really comfortable apart from the hip armour which feels like I've got a huge mobile phone in each pocket, really digs into my hips when I'm sat on the bike.
Might replace it with something a bit softer.

They're really comfortable...

so... they're not comfortable then?? :D

I have a pair of Draggin Jeans that I inherited off a mate second hand after he went round India wearing them.

They are pretty good, looked like any old pair of jeans, however the pockets were so small they were useless. I could just about squeeze keys or mobile phone in but wallet, no chance. I also found they dried very quickly when put on a line and turned inside out.

In response to the op - I'd happily wear them out and about, not sure if I'd want to come off in them (I know nobody wants to come off ;) )
