Because it was 10am in America and not a bank holiday there...

Who's up for some PvP on this? Loving it to be honest, it's not dumbed down at all. The core gameplay is proper AoE, the graphics are pretty good if low detail but nicely animated.

The "quest" system works quite well, more like scenarios than a quest per se! I even splashed out on the premium Greek, if you pay using Xbox points it works out about £12 which is a bargain in my eyes!

I stopped playing this on the release day may go back to it,I just have few questions

What rank do I need to be to start pvp?

Is there option to only pvp with players who have/don't have premium content?

Think Sparta opens up about Level 4 or 5 for non-premium PvP. I don't think that gives you the option for choosing who you play.

downloading now, i think it looks like the original AOE with nicer graphics kinda like warcraft 3.
I quite like the graphics, it's catoonish, but better than Civ 5! ;p

Great pricing move by MS

£74.99 for all Season1 premium content released between now & Feb 2012  so they are obviously expecting to sell several seasons & empty the wallets of those mad enough to buy into it!!!

£14.99 each for the Greek & Egyptian Premium Content available now. If you buy both at the same time they give you the DLC for free (worth £5) or £29.99 for both.

I expected £20 tops for the lot not £74.99 this is a concept which always sells millions to the massive casual gaming market so you would have expected a reasonable price..............
Amazon is selling it at 9.99 quid. What is it about?
Do you mean I have to continually subscribe for the game in order to play it?

It's persistent because you have your capital city, which you upgrade after doing quests (which is the real-time stragety part, where you base build and gather resources.) Once you finish a quest you go back to your capital city to buy thing/upgrade things/level up more things, etc.

In other words, capital city = persistant, quests/pvp = instanced.

There is also "pvp". But you have to be level 10 apparently.

So I have to get to at least level 10 to play pvp or I can buy level 10 online to play pvp?

If I remember right, you need premium in order to build an arena so that you can pvp.
Not having premium limits more things than I expected. You can only build 1 'school' (forgot what they're called) where you manufacture items (more with premium), BUT, you can't even use any of those items unless you have premium. So why even bother letting us build 1?

You don't need premium to PvP, there's a region that opens up about level 4 or 5 that lets non-premium players PvP without an arena. Similarly, a non-premium player can party up with a premium player and they can use his arena.

Folks,
Where I might find the subscriptions policy/information for online play?
I am planning to get the game from Amazon, just want to make sure the price is right and no cocking up.

I have found this game fun, although not been playing recently. I am tempted to buy the complete Greek & Egyptian packs, but I might wait until the Celtic one arrives. As a single player, the campaign missions are similar to AoE 1 of build x of wood, escort merchants, etc.
You can tell that Chris Taylor's GPG team have had to polish the game off, the units are well balanced and the rpg elements help you build a unique civilisation.
My gripes are the building/bonus limitations, the maps are small, compared to the older titles. and confusing price system.

I can't find any info about what you actually get with the retail box, I'm assuming there are 2 options. One for Greek and one for Egyptian and the retail box includes the premium civ for the respective box? Btw if you just download it and use the ingame store to buy premium it works out about £13 if you use XBL points for 1 premium civ.

Free:
Every civilization will have a free component:

The free part will have hours and hours of gameplay.
You will be able to play PvP.
You'll be able to play co-op with your friends and with people that you connect with on the chat channel.
You will be able to craft gear, consumables, and a lot more. Consumables are kind of like god powers from Age of Mythology.
Hundreds of quests will be available to you.
You will be able to spec out and tinker with your entire Tech Tree minus the premium Star Techs.
You will be able to create and use Workshops.
You will be able to use common and uncommon gear. (You’ll be able to pick up rare and epic gear, but you're unable to equip it—you will be able to sell or trade it, though.)
You’ll be able to use consumables.
You’ll be able to play every civilization for free. Let me say it again—at launch, you can play the Greeks and Egyptians both, for free, with the ability to get to the same level as a paid player. Play all future civilizations for free too!
Though you'll be able to play co-op and PvP as a free player, you won’t be able to set all the parameters of the PvP match. You’ll jump into a queue and be matched with someone of a similar level. You will be able to start a PvP match, though, and you'll be able to use the Merc Hall, which is basically random PvP matches.

Premium:
Every civ will have a premium portion. This premium, or paid, portion will give the player the ability to:

Use and equip rare and epic gear. This is the coolest gear in the game to equip on your units, villagers, and buildings.
Use Advisors, which will unlock unique units and civ powers.
Unlock the Star Techs in the Tech Tree. A few cool examples of Star Techs are:
◦Generating resources from your Market.
◦Having troops heal themselves.
◦Making your people immune to conversion in battle.
Set PvP parameters. As a premium player, you gain access to the Arena and War Councils:
◦The Arena gives you the ability to play PvP with a friend, in addition to the random PvP you’ll find in the Merc Hall.
◦The War Council gives you the ability to select specific game types, map types, number of players, and so on, with other players, and you’ll be matched via our matchmaking system.
More inventory slots. You’ll more than double your inventory slots when you upgrade to a Premium Civilization Pack.
More Workshops. Your city's productivity will improve with more Workshops to create all of the materials you need for crafting.
More Craft Halls. As a premium player, you’ll have access to more Craft Halls than you will as a free player. Craft Halls enhance your units based on your crafting choices.
Empire points. You have the ability to spend empire points on the best loot in the game.
Kick-backs from in-game stores. Add to your gold pile by getting kick-backs from people buying at your stores, in your cities.
The key thing here is that people who buy our Premium Civilization Pack don’t get a free get-out-of-jail card. All players still have to level up, earn the gear, and so on. You don’t just automatically buy your way to the top. In fact, I am seeing better players, who are playing with only free stuff, kick my rear, even though I am loaded with gear. So, it’s pretty balanced and we’ll continue to refine that balance up to launch.

Has anyone bought the Pro packs?

Been playing the Free bits and loving it so far, but I feel im missing out on a lot??

Is it worth getting?

thinking this too, realy got into this (free version) going to play a little tonight i think.

First RTS to grip me since ... Well AOE 2 :)

Well the quests are like the standard levels from the old AOE games, if anything they have just added a quest hub and gear and rewards and expanded the game.

IMO its a really good way for the franchise to move. It has a slight RPG-esque feel to it without the "grind" as the grinding is basically just levels from a standard campaign
