Amazed the wheel looks that bad, my S-Class was on about that mileage and the wheel looks brand new in comparison to that one :eek:
 
The headlights have a timer, so when the engine is turned off and headlights deactivated they actually stay on for about 30 seconds. Handy as the car is parked on the drive, so light the way to the door.

Very useful when you reverse park up the drive.

It's lacking the purple paisley patterned carpet though.
 
Had it a good couple of weeks, and it's excellent.

The seats are pretty good, and the heating function is lovely. You do slide around a bit when giving it some, though. :p

I've also had the power upped to around 150bhp, and it's a lot more pokey than it was. I always felt 130bhp wasn't really enough. Not quick, but nice and torquey and progressive now.

It's also proven immensely useful for shifting stock around - it's intended purpose. Excellent. :)
 
Would have gone for an Omega estate for that money, bigger and more toys.

Still, looks like a good example.

In all seriousness, I did have a nosey for a TDDI Mondeo Estate but they were all either quite old, poverty spec or stupidly overpriced. Plus I think all of them didn't have a mention of the DMF being changed, which is a common thing with them.

Plus, having just changed a DMF and clutch on a Mondeo TDDI, am I **** doing that again. Ever. :D

You have picked a better car anyway. :) Its exceptionally hard to find a decent spec TDDi these days that hasnt been ruined.

I have no idea where you're getting your info from, but I was under the sod for 3 days doing the job and it definitely had a (very knackered) DMF. It was a 2001 TDDi. :p

I did try looking but it was looking as if I was wasting my time.

Went to Scotland and back on Monday covering nearly 700 miles, and it was amazing how fresh I felt at the end of it - like I hadn't even gotten in the car, lovely :)
 
Remap now booked, also have a new MAF coming soon (Pierburgh, to replace the Bosch that is known for failing).

Also, in the post I have the commonly used Synergy 2 tuning module. This will work with the map I'm having loaded to provide low down torque, and at 2,000rpm the map takes over.

Along with the air intake modification I'm doing at the moment, I should have 170bhp and 310 lb/ft of torque, judging by previous results. Should be a nice jump. :)
 
Thermostat replacement is a real pain on these, taking around 5 hours for the DIY'er.

As mine had stuck open and was still partially operating, I decided to fit a 2nd thermostat in the top hose.

£5 later and I had a Renault 5 thermostat, ready to fit to the top hose.

First of all, you have to cut through a daft metal band holding the top hose on:

As you can see, the thermostat is a little big as it comes. Even with some silicon grease and hot water, it wouldn't quite fit.

After some filing down of the rim, it fitted much easier.

Ready to be pushed down. I mounted it about 1" into the hose, and held it with a jubilee clip so it couldn't drop down any further.

Took half an hour, and I took it for a good long hoon to check it could flow adequately. Previously, it would reach about 70 degrees after a long period of acceleration, but driving gently or coasting would see it down to 40s/50s.

Now, it holds at about 80 degrees. It peaked at 86, and dropped to 76 coasting. Not ideal, but a good deal better! Heater was also lovely and toasty too.

Where did you get those numbers from btw? The thermostat will be damped so you couldn't possibly be getting those temps from there...
 
The Renault Thermostat is a popular temporary solution on the Vauxhall 1.6 Engine (Old MPi 8v lump). Common for the thermostat to fail and it causes over cooling.

Temps are from the coolant temp sensor, accessed using the BMW system built into the trip computer. It gives a live readout when in diagnostic mode, allowing you to watch the coolant temperature real time.

I don't see how it's horrendous, if it does the job, costs a lot less than an OEM part and sees me through the winter what's the problem?

I don't fancy going under the car when it's cold and wet outside for 5 hours and spending £50 on the part alone, when this will do the job.
 
Is there any reason why you are so desperate to get the BMW angle into almost every post you make on this car? I mean telling us you accessed a 'BMW' system to get coolant temp? :/

Tell me which part isn't true about this statement and I'll agree.

The reason I mentioned it, is that people with the same system in a BMW will know what features it has, and what I'm on about. Deal with it.
