HP Pre 3 released

Having used an AZERTY keyboard layout on a holiday in France I can say from experience it wasn't much harder to get used to than the keyboard layout in the USA with the @ " switcharoonio. Few teething problems in first 10-20mins then it becomes second nature.
I will admit that being a touch typist I might have a minor advantage, but using a teeny keyboard on a phone doesn't involve much of that skill.

My Pre3 arrived this morning. What an absolutely amazing device! It's solidly built and much more stable than Touchpad WebOS! :)

I think mine might be faulty, I am sure I read you can use the Touchpad touchstone to charge Pre3 as well, but it does nothing when i put it on

no you can't actually. Only the pre/Pixi touchstones work

My Pre3 works fine on the Touchstone, it sometimes slips a bit and loses connection but apart from that no problems! I have noticed the USB connection can be a bit flaky sometimes and needs a jiggle though so check that out.

*** EDIT: Ignore, I didn't read the post properly, my Pre3 works fine on the ORIGINAL touchstone. I haven't had the option to test the touchpad touchstone, but I see no reason why it wouldn't work.

Just a quick update to say how fantastic this phone is. I managed to get 35.5 hours from 1 charge, lots of texts sent, a little web browsing and a little game playing.

This is by far the best phone I've owned so far. The screen looks phenomenal, everything feels swift and smooth. I expected the app store to be empty. It really isn't that bad - quite a few decent apps on there.

Keyboard is very pleasant to type on. it feels so nice that I find that I'm texting more than I used to. Call quality is superb, best phone again in this respect; can hear callers loud and clear. Signal is better too! Usually get 1 bar in my area, get 2 with the Pre 3 :)

This ranks as one of my best purchases ever, for a total of £93. Absolute bargain!

yeah the keyboard's quite good, something about how the keys are raised makes it almost possibly to blind-type. Not as easy to use the phone one-handed as I thought it would be though, can't bend my thumb enough to reach the keys closest to the edge I'm holding it from, and it's also quite hard to flip the phone open one handed.

I regret to say I'm not sharing your experience re: the battery, but it probably needs a few more cycles to straighten it out :)

I believe Skype is an absolute battery drainer, I should have mentioned, I have turned IM off completely :)

I just don't understand battery life on smart phones, and how people can stand with the battery life being so short - how the do you go anywhere, like away for the weekend, without having to find a plug to charge up?
You have to charge these things every day?

Spare battery solved my problems and in car chargers etc. But yes, gone are the days when you got a week from your Nokia 6310 ;)

It does annoy me, it's true. Especially since the stuff that you might need most when on the road are the ones that drain the most battery! Imagine getting lost in an area with bad reception and having to use GPS and Maps for instance, that'll drain it in no time.

We just need ONE manufacturer to have the guts to build a solid phone with a massive battery, and then people will realize that thinness isn't everything and there ARE consumers out there who are willing to carry around something that's less than slimline and won't fit in their pretentious skinny jeans if it means they'll have the juice when they need it.

A2Z, what's the need for whatsapp when you have unlimited texts? :-P

Those unlimited texts are not going to help you when you are abroad, and as Im planning to go away for 6 months in December, having whatsapp, which is what i use to communicate with 90% of my friends, was vital :p So no pre3 for me even though I really wanted one :(

TBH if you're away for so long you should get a local PAYG SIM card for wherever you'll be living, otherwise the roaming data for using Whatsapp (or any other chat program) will kill you just as bad as texting. Not to mention that I often have problems with roaming data not working at all.

My Pre 3 :D arrived today and I am loving it :D. It's my first smartphone and the whole feel of it is excellent. I'm quite used to touchscreen stuff from my ipod touch 4g and the last couple of weeks on the hp tp. It is, in my opinion, a much better touch experience than the itouch, my landlords BB Torch 9800 and the HD Desire thing a mate has (he agrees).
I've no idea how common or decent voice dialing stuff is but this worked first time on 10 different contacts I tried it on and only struggled when I tried a couple of mates with similar (same but prefer full and shortened versions) names, Kash/Kashif which confuzzled it.

Also impressed with the touch to share action. Camera is good, video quality and playback on it is sweet.

All of the above, apart from my mate with the Desire, is my opinion, which is not coming from the most experienced of users in this field but hey ho, I'm a happy bunny :D

(definitely wanting a better battery as soon as they're available)

well I finally got Spotify working thx to the clear consise instructions on pre-central, but the ear-phone volume level is very dissapointing, anyone else found this? so poor in fact when I was on my bike, the traffic noise made it hard to even hear the music, where as my Ipod is so loud you can not hear anything else...
