A 7950 that unlocks to a 7970 and a £100 quad core Bulldozer that unlocks to a octo core........ jawesome. The gpu, maybe, new architecture, the difference between a 6970/50 isn't massive in terms of shaders and the performance they give. The difference on the new gpu's, we'll have to see, it could be shader limited, or otherwise so it could make a small or big difference.

It will also be interesting to see the real difference between the top two gpu's, normally its about a 10% shader drop, its just under a 9% drop from 6970 to 6950, but due to the CU arrangement of the new architecture, its quite probably they'll disable one full Cu array, or 256shaders, if the real number for the 7970 is 2048, thats 1792 in the 7950, and closer to a 13% drop.

Thats all very much if's and buts, they might disable a smaller amount, the top card won't necessarily have 2048 shaders, etc, etc. Basically I can see the gap between a 7970/50 being either bigger this time, or the clock speed gap being smaller.

what makes you say that? i would expect at somewhere between 10% and 25% drop in price for the 6000 series but obviously that's just speculation

I plan on getting a mobo (asus formula v) and a new psu (850w). but keeping my 1090T cpu

I wonder what the spec will be like for the 7970 and 7990! I hope the very high end card won't be as long as the 6990 - lol

I have been looking though and even 5850's in crossfire beat a GTX 580 so I could always just get another 5830.

Given how many of us want one and the way these things go even the low to mid-range cards released at the first "launch" will probably be out of stock in five minutes. Rinse and repeat for the release of the high-end cards whenever they come out - thinking March/April 2012 :|.
