Greenlizard0 Weekend Football Thread ** spoilers ** [17th - 19th September 2011]

I can't see that happening, they are capable of going 10 games unbeaten in the league easily. Just a shame another game and yet another injury. Every game this season we've had someone injured during the game.

I think one problem is when you go to old trafford and have 10 players injured yet the media choose never to mention the injuries. Fair play arsenal have no strength in depth but I can't remember the last time arsenal had no players injured.

Doesn't help that your defensive call ups are so young and quite frankly not ready physically as long-term covers. Also, what is it with your squad and ankle injuries...

Villa 1-1 Newcastle

Disappointing draw, Benty should have made the game safe when we were 1-0 up, he doesn't seem on his game yet.

Worried about N'Zogbia too, very very ordinary so far for us.

Because for some reason mcleish insists on playing his left winger on the right and his form has dropped off, go figure.

We could have won it at the end, better team second half.

N'Zogbia has always excelled on the right, means he can cut inside, pass or shoot whatever. What all the clubs are doing nowadays, who crosses anymore?? :D

Hibbo was immense today easily MOTM, that's why Nev was on the bench. Poor old Bily I really don't think he likes that left wing. I think Drenthe should have started and nearly died when we have Vellios and Denis on at the sane time!! Coleman didn't look like himself, Rodwell wasn't on it in the second half at all and Fellaini was the complete opposite compared to the Villa game.

Didn't realise how many people, who are obviously season ticket holders of a club haven't got a clue about football. One bloke screaming get it in the box when we're 2-1 up and 5 minutes left and calling Osman a *** head and a **** when he passes back to Hibbo or inside to Rodwell.

Really poor for 60-70 minutes, place was completely flat as well I couldn't believe how quiet it was. I hope we see Vellios & Drenthe starting against WBA.

Wigan are just horrible, wasting time from as soon as they scored, and didn't do anything at all. The only bit of football from them was a little flick Martinez did when the ball come to him for him to knock it back into play.

He has never excelled on the right. He Played for Wigan on the left all last year and Newcastle before that.

Cutting inside wingers is for teams with small strikers or **** wingers. Villa have neither.

Well I've just watched his goals and assists for last season and many of his goals came from the right just as much as the left.

Ashley Young and Nani constantly cut inside, I wouldn't call them **** players.

I wouldn't call Bent a ***** striker. Sure he's not top class but he's definitely top of the best of the rest available. There's loads of teams who would love someone who consistently gets around 20 goals every season.

At least for a change Wenger came out after a game saying that was terrible, as always the problem is, he's only just worked that out, the defence has been that shoddy and unorganised for years, and the team was terrible because he put together what is becoming a terrible team.

Infact, there is no team, its all individuals, and not just because some of them are new. Gervinho will run himself into a dead end rather than pass, RVP is isolated and used to everyone around him screwing up, Arshavin is treated like he's dispensible by Wenger, Theo is unwilling to put any effort into anything at all, our wing backs and CB's haven't worked together in a system for years, Song does his own thing, which is usually wrong, Ramsey is currently doing one truly terrible pass for every good pass and Arteta seems pretty foul happy and while good, not a true dominating player in central midfield that we need.

Fire whoever the damn defensive coach is, and hire a new one, it really is that simple, let him work and improve the defence, have them actually have a system, have them hold a ruddy line, stop rushing out and teach the damn DM how to track midfield runners who run at the back four.

One of the best two teams in the league, or the best in the unbeaten year, to this, its not financial like the fall of other top teams, we're spending 50mil more a season, financial issues with the new stadium is laughable. 50mil more a season in wages, and for most of the years since the move, higher profit per season after debt repayments, if we were spending 115mil on wages at Highbury, we'd be losing 30-40mil a year minimum, financially we're so far ahead of where we'd be at Highbury, its the dumbest excuse ever.

Simply, spending 50mil more a year, on vastly worse players, is horrible horrible business. We're screwed till WIlshire is back, and I just can't in any way imagine Wenger getting the January transfer window work spot on. Lose Diaby, Rosicky, Squillaci, Chamakh, minimum, and bring in four first team players, another CB, an actual quality one not a tall dude with no pace no one is sure about and no other decent team gave a damn about missing out on. A DM, no question, and a creative central mid, thats bare minimum.

I had to laugh when I saw the score (was at work), although I read something about Gervinho and it 'should have been 3-1', did he miss a chance or have one disallowed? And their 2-2 being miles offside, but whatever, I don't care any more. There's no way this team was ever going to be able to win the league, so dropping points doesn't rob me of any hope. In previous years you always thought maybe, just maybe, but this year it feels like 4th is the absolute best this team could accomplish and even then it's a big ask.

New players, but same problems:
Defensive organisation still a shambles
Lack of belief
Lack of concentration/focus

It's down to one person to fix that, and he's not doing a very good job. The only reason we didn't lose at Dortmund was because their finishing was useless and they missed all the easy chances but scored with the one spectacular one, not that we'd turned a page defensively. Seriously, I think we'd do better swapping Steve Bould for Wenger so he can develop the young players and we'd have someone who knows how to defend.

Oh well, 99 points left to play for.
