Brit Abused Kelis at Airport

Having lived in many countries myself I can assure you, there are far worse places to be living than the UK where racial issue's occur.

South Africa back in the 80's/90's was a horrible place to live if you weren't white, it's barely better than that now even.

This is 2011 thou not the 80s.

What's actually wrong with calling out the UK on its racial issues? Sounded more like she was saying the nation in general has issues which aren't talked about, not "all british people are racist".

Because she said after 1 single incident to her that the entire country was 'decades behind progression' and that the UK's racial issues are 'disgusting' this coming from a woman who has been reported as making racially charged comments less than a decade ago herself.

I don't think anyone will disagree that like most countries we have a race problem that persists, but I don't think we are ten years behind any country in regard to that.

There's only ever focus in racism by whites because we live in a diverse place with self hating anti-white bigots in control. Why do you never hear about racism in other countries? Take a look at racism in Japan, they can't stand Koreans and want to keep their country Japanese which I highly respect. Why can't whites do the same? Why don't Indians talk about the caste system that still exists today?

You respect bigotry and institutionalised racism?

Japan however is interesting because what we would see as racism they do not, their culture is based on honour and etiquette which extends to foreigners where they see foreigners as honoured guests, but when that honoured guest becomes a permanent immigrant their cultural history and etiquette see this as rudeness on the part of the guest, a bit like someone outstaying their welcome in a Western home.

As regard the Chinese and Koreans, we have to consider the historical and cultural record of these nationalities to appreciate the ingrained animosities between them. The Japanese constitution states that all people are equal under the law, and they cannot be discriminated against politically, economically, or socially on the basis of race, belief, sex, or social or other background, the problem is that there is little actual legislation to back that up. In any case Japan is a great place to visit for the non-Japanese, but not so nice to stay if you cannot accept their foibles with regard to their culture.

As for the Indian Caste system, you clearly don't know what you are talking about as the caste system is a very contentious and hotly debated issue in India, with a whole range of reforms and anti discrimination measures being instituted since the 1950's. To say Indians do not talk about the caste system is simply wrong, in many way they talk about little else.

They're remarkably precise about the age of the man in that article, have they identified him? I don't suppose he could have been 48 or 53?

Not to say that London is perfect by any stretch but what problems need addressed? Without any form of elucidation does that mean I'm left to fill in problems that irk me about London?

Did anyone else wonder if the choice of Kelis song was intended to make a statement about the story or is it just me looking for wit that isn't there?

I bet she was called something else that sounds very similar to a "Kunta" but thats probably because she jumped a queue. As opposed to 60,000,000 people in the UK being horrible racialists.
