****The Official Samsung Galaxy S II Thread***

I have just ordered the white SGS2 :) What is the current best cases?

I remember asking a while back (for my GF) and the response was the mesh one for quality/looks? Would the official mesh one contrast nicely or look wrong?

I do not want to root the phone in case I balls it up and then can't return it to o2 if the GPS chip is just not working.

How about a forced firmware update? At the moment it is on an O2 firmware version - can I just update to a generic firmware (2.3.4 one) via Odin and avoiding rooting thus keeping warranty in tact! :)

You can unroot a device to return it ;) (as its what i did when i returned mine to the rainforest for a camera fault).

Ok so I picked up a SGS2 today and it is great apart from one thing....I can't seem to get the GPS to work. I have downloaded GPS tester and when the application starts nothing happens...no satellites are shown or anything.

On googlemaps my location can only be found when I enable wireless network positioning. I am guessing that this is a hardware problem so need to return the phone?

Yea took a while to get mine working on the computer but worked after 20 mins. Now it works after couple of mins.

Is there a way to increase the in call volume (from the phone speaker, not the loud speaker) on a non rooted phone? If not is this likely to be fixed in future firmwares?

I read something about a service mode but that needed doing each time the phone was restarted.

Other people can hear me fine but I can't her other people clearly if there is a lot of outside noise or the phone speaker is not exactly on my ear. Other people have reported this issue iirc so it is not a fault with my handset etc.

Just little things really, low in-call volume, low headphone volume, slow GPS lock, it feels a bit cheap and its a bit too big well for me anyway.

I am not saying its a bad phone, just not the right one for me.

:)
Shame to hear that andyd.

volume boost.
Enter this number *#*#197328640#*#*
This will open the service mode menu.
Select option [5] AUDIO
Select option [1] (VOICE CALL)
Select option [2] HEADSET
Select option [1] Volume
Select option [1] SRC Speech RX Volume
Select option [5] 5_lvl : 87
Press the menu button (left side)
Choose Key Input
Enter a value between 0 and 100, with 100 the loudest setting.
Press ok
Then press the menu button and select back this will save (don't use the right side back key you normally use to navigate the phone or you will quit out of the settings).
Keep selecting the menu and back until you exit the service mode menu.
You will also note you can change volume settings for other things like Bluetooth, handsets, video call etc

Does anyone now how much of a battery upgrade you can give the S2?

I tired looking at their website for the phone, but can't find anything that explains how much of an upgrade the phone can take.

Does anybody know if there is any way to have the "Internet Pass Through" feature on the GS2. I had it on my old HTC Desire HD and it was really useful but I cant find anything like it for the GS2.

What is internet pass through? Tethering is built onto Android if that's what you mean.

I suppose the best way to describe would be as Reverse Tethering basically you can plug the Phone into the PC and use the PC's internet connection on the phone.

The official mesh cover looks very good but all it protects is the back, which doesn't need protecting (IMO), it leave the front and side vulnerable to damage.

I got a few from evilbay and have stuck with a leather wallet.
