Are there actually any hardware components out that are much faster then what is out now? All the mobile processors out or are due out are around 1.2-1.4Ghz dual core, anything more then 1GB of RAM is overkill. I really don't see what components Apple can use that are even a tiny leap over what is out now. Or am i wrong and there is some supar secret uber mobile processor due out that Apple might use?

I'm really exspecting a iPhone 4.5 with specs similar to a SGS2 except maybe only a 4" screen.

Unless they've somehow managed to fund, research and produce quad-core processors (that are coming out quite soon anyway), then no. It'll be dual-core, 1-1.5Ghz.

If thats so Apple are going to be so far behind the ball in a few months when it comes to hardware.

Well, quad-core is just absolute overkill. It really won't matter that much. For example, what can the iPhone do that requires quad-core? Or even dual-core really?

Dual-core is worth getting because it helps for things like HDMI mirroring, 1080p recording and has some power saving benefits. Those things won't really be extended by quad-core.

Apple have never lead the line when it comes to hardware specs, they just ensure the hardware is powerful enough so the device will run smoothly until the end of its expected product lifetime.

Lulz, yeah I'm sure no-one will buy the iPhone 5 because they'll read about the CPU specs and how it's not as fast in benchmark apps as xyz HTC/Samsung phone. I can't be having Facebook load 0.0125 seconds slower.

Who cares? If history has taught us anything it's that the greatest hardware is nothing without software or content.

People buy iPhones for iOS and the App Store, not whether the hardware is cutting edge or not.

I think the bigger problem is their current user base, what iPhone 4 owner is going to fork over a few hundred quid for basically the same phone?

The 4S isn't aimed at 4 users, it's aimed at people with older iPhones who've yet to upgrade or those who've not yet had an iPhone, possibly because it was previously too expensive.

The 5 is what they expect current 4 users to upgrade to.

Personally I really can't see Apple releasing a 4S AND a 5, but regardless of my thoughts, IF they did, surely it would make it a iPhone 4S and the iPhone 6

The same 3G owners who forked over a few hundred quid for a 3GS?

I don't know anyone who owned the 3G that bought a 3GS, I'm sure there are some though.

I was assuming that there would only be a 4s.
I don't know about you but if I were looking for a new phone I would buy a used 4 for £300 or an Android phone if all they released was a speed bump at twice the price.

I hate it when people say things are "over kill" by that logic we don't even need a 1GHz chip.

We want as much as we can get!

Hey, I'm all for more powerful hardware but you can't deny that at this moment in time quad-core would indeed be overkill.

Apple are the last company that will put totally over the top hardware in a device for the sake of it.

Will be heading back to apple after a year with my HTC desire. Picked up a second hand 3gs for my partner and it made me jealous because of all the apps :(

Been using Miui on my HTC and it really does make it a more enjoyable experience but lacking the apps :(

At lest if this is just really a performance jump Should be able to get ip4 at decent price :)

I'll be ditching my Desire for an iPhone too.

Shine has gone from Android for me. When it works it's fine but there are just too many little problems with it for my liking. I need a phone that just works.

To paraphrase the Android, sorry, mobile forum.. a phone's only a phone if it requires tens+ of man hours installing custom software to get it working properly.

Yes because the technology jump was so HUGE in those 2 phones, The 3GS is MILES better than the normal 3G so people might of done that.

However with the Iphone4 ALREADY being superfast and the Iphone 5 will be around the same speed if not abit better. So theres no point of upgrading yet if you have a Iphone 4 as you WONT notice the speed difference
