Who here owns a Renaultsport?

That's a given but what I've found since living in the North East is that because they are used to this kind of weather they are generally more prepared for it. So when the Snow does hit, the roads are cleared to a point they are still completely useable pretty quickly and the only reason you'll be caught out is not driving to the conditions (which in my opinion is what the majority do. I see more 4x4's stuck in ditches come the winter than cars as they think they invulnerable to the snow) Obviously I can't comment for Scotland but you get the jist of what I mean.

SO i think my cars blown up :(

Over the past week or so its has been ticking from the engine quite loudly... which hasnt been going away over ~2000rpm which would rule out dephaser pulley and hopefully something to do with cambelt.

So I was on my way to leave it overnight at the garage and it stalls / becomes very loud /rackety and just manage to pull over, it sounds like its being run with no air intake covering the throttle body. Sounds terrible, its firing but really loudly with a bang bang bang every half second , no idea what it might be atm :(

So i check the oil - fine , drop the **** dipstick into the engine bay!! Check the expansion tank to see if theres oil in there (ie headgasket) - nope. Not a lot else I could do and fortunately my old dorris was following me to bring me home again so we found a tow rope which snapped TWICE to tow me to the garage (TOP TIP , never use a tow rope with a clio trying to brake a ~1.8tn merc estate tank down a hill)

Also i managed to catch the door and crease it on a railing when pushing the car back into position - don't ask , I dont know how i managed it and feel like a complete **** , now i have to replace the door too :(

SO , going to the garage at 9.30am to get them to start it up and hopefully find out the damage.

***********************************************Squirrel, what did yours sound like when the cambelt went? Mines done 12000 miles since the cambelt change (that i know of , its a 2009 cambelt from markings) but i don't know if it was changed properly as i did not own the car at the time.

Sorry to hear that dude, and the door as well to top it all off :(

My cambelt didn't actually go, I don't know the correct terminology, but I was told the engine "dropped a valve". I think one of them came loose and it was chewed up by the engine and just screwed everything up.

It sounded like horrible grinding metal, and then wouldn't start at all. But when you did try to start it the car sounded horrible, again like grinding metal.

In simple speak dropping a valve is when one of the pistons meets one of the valves, and if you dropped a valve you would know about it as it would make one heck of a noise!

To lazzy to read, but here ya go!

Also love some of the "top of the range" arguments here.
http://www.braintreeandwithamtimes.co.uk/news/9248181.Braintree__Video__CCTV_of_hit_and_run_car/

basically one guy says it's not top of the range, then changes his stance to "top of the range (the renault range) because it's not a laguna"
I love him because basically he argues that a BMW 1 M is less than a 316i.

Exactly that. Something about the package is very appealing. 0 chance at the moment sadly, but may replace my mx5 track **** with one one day and keen to drive a clio cup car sometime to!

Turns out that one of the spark plugs had sheared its thread causing the engine to only be firing on 3 cylinders and loosing compression.

Garage should be able to , in place, tap a steel collar into the cylinder head for the spark plug, but on the renault engine the thread is about 4-5 inches deep inside the head so if they cant manage it doing it on the engine then the whole cylinder head will have to come off :(

That could be about 2 days work apparently! $$$$

What's the risk of metal shards ending up in the cylinder bore by tapping it 'in situ'?

I realise the thought of two days labour plus associated parts to whip the head off is not an appealing one but neither is the thought of anything ending up in the cylinders...

This is what happens when you drop a valve on an F4R RS engine at 7500rpm :P

Finally got round to painting my Renault badges for my wheels, just need to wait for the lacquer to dry for 4-5 days. The little clips on them are pretty fragile though so I'm hoping they go back on okay.

I'm thinking of taking the 'Renault Sport' badge off my car as I'm sick to death of driving next to people with the halfords 'sport' badge on. Looks like I've stuck one on my car :( I'll either de-badge it or buy the newer version...
