Going travelling next year..

Fascinated by their technology but keep to their traditional ways. I only had 5 full days in Tokyo but got out to see Yokohama too. Never once got lost on their underground. Never felt threatened or uneasy despite being out late at night too. It is expensive but I still managed to do loads on a budget, I lived on sushi all the time...for all 3 meals. They had some killer alcohol too was like lemonade but 8% I was very drunk that night haha. Went out to some temples too and the government building to floor 57 or something. Could see for miles. The girls are fit and everywhere. Went to one of those pinky cafes bizarre but cute and not really pervy or seedy like in Thailand lol.

Was an awesome experience and was so lucky to get the return flight for a dollar

Thats good to know, I wanna have a good wander and not just stick to the touristy places.

+1 on that! I once dated a Japanese girl she was just stunning. She used to bring her friends over to my place for house parties and meet-ups in town...and yes all of THEM were equally amazing. WTH is in the water over there?

But this was all when I lived in America. How are they in their native land I wonder...they friendly?

Eastern European girls are very pretty but in my opinion those stunning Singaporean, Japanese, Korean girls are *ridiculously* pretty.

The post above was for Japan obviously hehe. I didn't read all your post.

Malaysian people very friendly, very helpful. Laos people similar too. Singapore is very modern, a lot of English speaking too. Was out there for the inaugural f1 gp so the place was buzzing.

But he's going with a GF so dorms won't really be an option. I stayed mostly in hostels in Aus but it was double rooms - which are more expensive.

Good luck finding a dorm for £4 over Australia

Thats I why I said a room and talking about Se asia , its a Bungalow/guest house call it what you will.

In Se Asia its a bed , fan ,shower, toilet and a window if your lucky :o

Wow...you guys have motivated me now. After my divorce is done next year this is exactly what I wanna do. Ive saved up a decent amount and now its time to see the rest of this planet. I want to go to the same places the OP does except Australia. I wanna do Japan (sister has a best friend there so sorted for accomodation) and also Singapore (got an aunt there). But Vietname, Cambodia etc I will have to rough it.

I sound like a broken record on here but do it roughing it , is part of the fun you meet new people ,expirence new things.

Just to wet your appetite I was in Chang mai on my own , and suddenly realised it was their new year and apprently Chang Mai was the place to be for this. Due to its moat and their new year is a water festival .

I stayed paid for my room , first day ( its a 3 day celebration ) I got pulled over by this old man who cooked chicken. I met his family ate chicken :p and drank lots this guy paid for the lot stayed at his house.

The next morning he insisted on doing the entire celebration again  This time I paid for everything much to disgust of him . I learnt so much from talking to them and his family you know why they treated me so well over the next 3- 4 days? I gave his 2 children my big water pistol and said a few words to them in Thai. Truly amazing time and to top it all off Thailand was the place I liked the least !

Yep its amazing how much time they give you when you learn to speak to them and not just the usual hello goodbye how much. Did you get to Pai when you went divaboy? That place is awesome. Spent 11 days there living in a teepee, chilling out, hanging with the locals, trekking and eating at Na's Kitchen...truly the best Thai curries I have found in Asia and for about £1.50 for a huge meal.

Oh and Song Kran is the Thai new year celebrations. Sometime in April. I wanted to go next year but I had the whole of last April off this year to do Peru and Ecuador. Taking the proverbial at work if I ask for it again next year haha

I didn't get to Pai :( You know why because I chose to see Spurs beat Arsenal in a perm league game I feel ashamed to admit that :(

I'm thinking about doing this in about 12 months time.

My original idea was Thailand, Malaysia, Australia, New Zealand, South America then USA. All in about 6 months. My initial thought was about $100 a day so my plan to do it on £15k should be alright.

Thailand should be no problem for £30 a day, hell I just sorted out a decent hotel with aircon for 790 baht a day in a tourist trap area.

Just remember to bartar!

Can you barter if you don't speak the language?

Use a calculator or your phone and type what you want to offer, obviously not going to try and bartar food carts etc as they are all ready silly prices :)

Will be very little English once you get into the glorious Thai countryside, but very happy people and helpful

I have heard a western guy has more chance of winning the lottery than scoring with a non working Korean girl, soon going to find out :p

Hell even the korean hookers are split into area's which take westerners with the best ones kept for the local's :D

But yeah, japan and south korean girls are soooo fine

Thinking of doing a year out myself in a few years so looking forward to seeing how you(op) get on in the eastern area's :)

I'm thinking of Driving to Odessa in the Ukraine and then getting a boat to the Republic of Georgia next year.

The thing is I dont think that there is a ferry to Gdansk in Poland from the UK.
Also not sure wether it would be wise to drive through the Ukraine.

Hi, I recently got back from travelling Australia. I was spending ~$240 (AU Dollars) a week not including travelling. I'm quite the budget king though so expect to spend a great deal more than that if you're expecting to indulge in all the tourist activities.

I met some other English guys out there who took £20k with them for an 18 month trip and they were really going for it. They're not planning on returning with a penny of that though.

Frequent and reliable sources have told me that £750 a month in SE Asia will have you living like a king. So you can expect to spend less than this if you're good with budgeting.

If you have any questions about travelling/backpacking Australia then get in touch. Email is in trust and I'd be glad to answer any questions you have. My experiences are quite extensive and up to date. :)

If you need any ideas, this is mine and the GF blog for the trip we did last year, was amazing. - http://nicandrob.wordpress.com/2010/08/24/staying-awake-in-delhi/

Went:-

India
Nepal
Thailand
New Zealand
Australia

We spent just over 12k on 6 months out. But if we had stayed in asia we could have easily stayed out for another 6 months. Aus and NZ are going to be your expensive countries (and allot less confortable). In asia we could afford double rooms with airconditioning. In aus it was dorm rooms. In NZ I would check out the BBH- http://www.bbh.co.nz/. Very nice hostels and got double rooms most of the time.

EDIT: just realized op is not going to NZ ( but you should seriously consider it) Amazing.
