They're not much of an upgrade from your GTX 480's.
They're not much of an upgrade from your GTX 480's.
No much point to upgrade from 480 SLI to 580 SLI unless you are going for the 3GB models for certain games or high resolution with high AA.

3GB will allow you to get higher playable settings under high resolution:

So I would suggest you either hold for the upcoming 28nm cards, or just go for the 3GB 580s. There isn't really much point to "upgrade" to the 1.5GB 580s from 480 SLI.
would there be much performance between the
1536MB version or the 3072MB - going tobe running SLI
Really?
Will 6GB of video memory ever be utilised before the cards want replacing?
3Gb, not 6Gb. In SLi the memory isn't doubled. I believe the data is duplicated between the cards.
So, then, what your saying is: 2x580's @ 3GB would only come out as 3GB and not 6GB?
If so, then what would 2x580 @ 1.5GB come out as? I take it not, 3GB then?.....I had the idea running in SLI you get double,....I'm confused, or badly miss-informed![]()
sli 1.5Gb cards will give u a usable 1.5Gb of vram, in sli both cards have to store the same data so that's why it don't stack, the 590's only have 1.5Gb of usable vram too even tho they are specced as 3Gb.
Yes that is what i'm sayingand 2 x 1.5Gb GTX 580s in SLi would give you 1.5Gb usable VRAM.
