On the road....
I have just been totting up my pre BF3 expenditure, I'm wondering how much others are spending in preparation.....

Quad, Mobo, RAM & SSD back in January - £350 ish.

Windows 7 Home Premium Retail - £150 ish

And last night I bought a friends GTX480 off him for £180

I have pre-ordered BF3 from OC/UK, all of my upgrades have been specifically with BF3 in mind.

So, once I add the cost of the game itself, I'm in the ballpark of £700!

I hope its worth it!!!:o

Edit- forgot the new 2TB HD, thats another £80!

£800 by the time I'm done I guess! :o lol

im spending nothing i just played the beta with these settings
vLsAM.jpg

and got 40-60fps

amd x6 1055t (stock)
4gb ram
460GTX @ 715mh stock

im sure some of the large otudoor levels with vehicles will be more demanding but i imagine i can just knock the AA down to 2x and be fine

My Q6600 with 6950 is playing on High with 50-70+ fps. But I will await the final release with bigger maps to decide. Cost me a hell of a lot less then £700 as well lol

got myself a new i5 2500k new motherboard 8GB Xms3 and a 6950 for just under £600
Sold my old components on the MM for £300

soo ... £300 give or take. Not played the beta yet but i am sure it will run fine with the above hardware

You must be getting a lot of chug with that. I'd be interested to see a graph of your FPS.

Running at ultra on my 6970 at 1920x1200 (no AA) my FPS were around 50-75 and I personally found that a bit chuggy.

I might download the beta but I know my 5770 will struggle at 1920 x 1200. It's just going to make me want to upgrade. :( What would £100 get me?

It's worth it. I played it back at i43, and have had itchy hands since :D

are you SURE that's BF3 related?

I had a e2180 clocked to 2.8 and i've now bought a q6600 which runs at 3.4ghz for £52.50. Plus a OcUK H2FLO cooler @ £42, bought a new monitor for it (well, 2nd hand 23" LG Flatron FOR £75! total bargain) and will probably get a graphics card at £100 MAX (again 2nd hand) so about £269.50 so far :O THEN £30 for the game. £300... jesus ****ing christ it's not until you add it up that it makes you wince.

My 6970 isnt doing to well @ 1080p ultra 35/45fps (out doors)... rest in sig

How you getting 50-75fps?

I should've mentioned that I had AA turned off but everything else in ultra.

I'm also running a [email protected] and have 8GB of ram but I doubt those would make that much difference compared to your setup. The main thing is probably reduced AA.

oh, yeah mine are on x4 x8... doh! i do like a bit of AA tho... might turn'em down now... will try 11.10 hotfix as well.

I thought these could be had brand new for less than that?

The cheapest @ OC/UK is circa £320.

I'm not too bothered re the price paid - I went with him when he bought it for far more about a year ago.

I'd rather pay a mate a little more knowing the cards history - not to mention he had an unusual reason for sale, sight issues, needed an equivalent ATI as its image quality is easier on his restricted vision, I was happy to give him a little over the odds as it helped him get the 6970 that he wanted.

He's happy, as am I. :)

I'm running the hotfix drivers (ran them immediately though so I can't compare to previous versions).

To be honest, I haven't really notice too much aliasing without it turned on.

My rig in sig isnt running it very well even if i try to put it onto medium from ultra. The good news is i bought lots of nice parts and building my rig next week, hopefully in time to test it out on the beta.
