Who here owns a Renaultsport?

I find I get about 37-39mpg depending on how i drive on my 35 each way commute. Mainly consisting of 40-50mph B roads and a 10 mile stretch of dual carriage way @ 60-70, fortunatly no town driving as thats where it would average out to about 34-35 i reckon.

Still not bad for a 2.0ltr but recently I've switched back to shell fuels as Im sure i get better mpg even when i was using those vouchers for tesco to put momentum 99 in, it just didnt sit straight with my engine! So 3 tanks of regular shell 95 then one a month of 97 to keep her 'appy

Also , off to the garage soon to pick her back up , all fixed but yet to know the damage to my finances, at least its payday tomorrow and might offer them cash money to by pass the VAT :p

I've found my car runs better on momentum 99 compared to v-power, it feels much more lively and torquey for some reason. Can't comment on MPG in comparison to v-power as it doesn't really concern me as I don't do a huge amount of miles currently. I can't see much difference though.

I've mangaged 44-45 MPG during motorway cruising in the past according to the computer display. Can't complain! :)

Picked up my new rear shocks this morning and had the old ones off and new ones fitted in 15 minutes. Probably the easiest thing I've done to the car, unlike the 7 hours it took to do the Powerflex ARB bushes.:p

Shall let you all know if the new shocks have sorted my floaty handling out later on after a thorough testing. ;)

Yeh payday tomorrow for me too - may treat it to a tank of V-Power!

I managed to hit 44mpg on my drive to Scotland in August but that was running on premium supermarket fuel. I noticed that when I filled up with ordinary unleaded half way through the drive up that I couldn't manage to get above 38mpg and I had CC set at 70mph all the way.

CaptainFail, about your Powerflex Bushes...

Do they give the car a more rigid ride feel, ie as your removing the 'rubbery' renault ones does this make the car more prone to feeling every bump in the road? Considering replaceing all my bushes as they are 6 years old now and could do with a refresh but wondering whether to go down the powerflex route .. or just buy renault oem ones.

I should at that as its mainly used as a commuter car with the occasional friday afternoon drive home from work rag , i would like to keep some degree of comfort :p

I found they didn't really alter the ride quality much but they certainly improved steering response and sharpness quite a lot during spirited driving. Unfortunately it didn't last long as not long after I'd put them on I think a rear shock went, but with my new ones fitted it should all be sorted now. Going out soon to test :p

It's worth doing I think, it certainly didn't change normal driving much so comfort wise you should be fine. As comfy as a Clio with hard suspension can be anyway... :p

I really want to do this too, hopefully get it done when I change shocks and springs.

Payday on Friday, may go a play out in these lovely highland roads :)

Anyone used PE2's on track?

I know they are good on the road, but as Track tyres they are quite expensive.

Yup. They perform just like any other good road tyre on a track day, they tend to 'go off' quite quickly from the heat. I've got no camber adjustment on the Saxo, so the issue I have is lots of wear on the very edge of the sidewalls. Might not be an issue on the Clio though.

Really need something with a stiffer sidewall next. Was really impressed with how a mate's Civic EP3 felt with Yoko AD08s - probably going to give those a try. :)

Yeah, sidewall wear is an issue on the Clio, but I plan to have some camber on the front before my next track day.

Found a set of wheels with PE2s on that work out at about £150 for the tyres. For the same money I could get 4 new T1Rs. The T1R's are just as soft and 'road tyre' as the PE2s, but the are cheaper. Dont want to munch a set of PE2's if I'd be better off selling them.

You would be making a large error comparing TR1s to PE2s, TR1 is terrible in the wet compared, and the PE2s are considerably better in the dry too.

What about on track (in the dry)?

Even more so on track, on the road you won't really notice the difference, the grip of both tyres are fairly similar. The sidewalls on the TR1 however are very soft in comparison to the PE2, and this is most noticeable on track because you are pushing harder. a lot of people use the TR1 on the road and praise it, but take them on track and you will find they have complete lack of feel from the wheel. At the end of the day you are comparing a budget performance tyre vs a premium performance tyre, one is cheap for a reason.

I've used the T1R on track, all be it in 16" 195 form. It.... sucked. But more because I had to over inflate them to protect the side walls so lost grip at the front.

15s should solve this, but it sounds like some cheap PE2s are not going to be a disaster on track, and hopefully I should be able to drive home on them ok.

Tempted to get 6 wheels in total so I only need to take 2 spares to track days, one for each side. The chances of mullering both front and back wheels in a day are slim.

I had 6-7mm on all my PE2s, after a trackday i was 3 on the fronts and 6+ on the rears still. I've had PE2's on the clio twice now, on 16" and 15" and they really are fantastic. Especially when you can pick up a set on 15" for £200 new. The only tyre i've heard that is as good is the V12. My tyres need replacing, so if i don't go for cut slicks, i may well try the V12s so i can compare them to the PE2's.

For track, I'd probably just go with TR1s. A few tenths to a second a lap isn't going to spoil your enjoyment much, but the reduced grip may be a little more forgiving on the rest of your suspension/drive components whilst being easier on the wallet, too.

FWIW, I despise TR1s on the road, but they are cheap enough to destroy on track.

Just a few pictures of my finished wheel diamonds on the car
