I'll be all for the lowest memory available to keep the prices down. I don't use the iPhone for music or videos just apps and phone use.

Spoke to 02 yesterday to get my tariff down a bit for the next month. Asked the guy (an actual human being, i was shocked) if he had any info at all regarding the iPhone5 and he said "only what you know, it's being announced on the 4th and we'll have it in october". He also said that if they do a "register your interest" when they officially announce it on the 02 site then they'll call before it's released so i can get it on launch date.

Seems there will only be one "new" iPhone, likely a 4s, as its now showing in Apples DB supposedly.
Also there's a 8gb iPhone 4, so it looks like the 16gb 4 will be discontinued.
Although it will support HSPA+ 14mbs/21mbs (depending on network frequency) which is a +

But there might be a 5 which hasn't been added to the database yet. If there is a 5 and Apple's been successful in keeping it under wraps until now, then Apple's not likely to blow its own cover by adding it to a database...

Is it called the 4s in this database? I'd still be really shocked if apple didn't tie iOS 5 with iPhone 5 even if it looks like the 4.

Hmm, If there is a "iPhone 5" we could see a new A6 SoC based on Samsung's 32nm high-K metal gate process. It should reduce power consumption significantly.

Maybe it is just a "iPhone 4S" this year (with the 45nm A5 and minor design update) with the 6th gen following ~6 months after? (back to a early summer release)

It'll certainly be interesting with all the new flagship phones being released this close together :)

The more I read the more I'm convinced.
Apple will release 2 new phones on the 4th. The iPhone 4S and an 8GB iPhone4. The 4S will be an update to the 4 with iPad2 specs (A5, 512MB), the 8GB iPhone4 will be just that.
I'm pretty convinced there will be no iPhone5 this year.

totally agree and I'm fairly close to this being as I work in mobile accessories.

Seems they're settling into a similar tic/toc pattern as intel, tics being minor changes and tocs being big ones.. or the other way round.. basically

iPhone 1 - big deal
iPhone 2 (the change most people forget, dropping the lowest model and software changes)
iPhone 3 - big change
iPhone 3GS - small changes
iPhone 4 - big change
iPhone 4S... you get the picture.

If this is true and the 4S is just a faster version of the 4 with more memory then, tbh, an 8GB 4 would probably do me fine, especially if there are some good deals around.

Anyone want to hazard a guess how much an 8GB iPhone4 would be on an 18-month contract with either O2 or Voda (need their better signal/coverage)

Hmm if no 5 I might wait until I see what Nokia's Mango phone looks like or I might go cheap until the 5 appears via Android. My 3GS is going no matter what as the battery and the screen glass needs replacing for sure and that's going to be about £100.

Then they will lose a lot of people to Android, including me.

You've drawn two completely different conclusions from the same information there.

From the same information, I'm going to say:

16/32gb iPhone4 Discontinued (N90)
8gb iPhone 4 Introduced (N90A) (Does not support HSPA)

16/32gb iPhone 5 Released. (N94) (Supports HSPA)
No iPhone 4S.

N92 already exists as its the 'Verizon' iPhone 4.

You say the only phone released will be an iPhone 4S based on this code being added to the db and then in the same sentence suggest another new 8gb iPhone 4 would be released, which there is no code for. Not to mention the chinese site that mentions HSPA compatibility actually lists it as the iPhone 5.

Watch the video here:

I think they have it 99% nailed. That's how it will look.

Actually...

iPhone 2. Doesn't exist, they just dropped the 4GB variant before the 8GB was even released in the UK. The 16GB version came latter when the iPod touch got a 32GB version.

iPhone 3G. Small change!
The cheaper iPhone.
It only added 3G, GPS and a new plastic case. Nothing else, nada, zip!
Actually the battery size dropped from 1400mAh to 1150mAh in correspondence with the price drop. Its 400MHz SoC wasn't fast enough to utilise the 3G speeds. Google maps with GPS + 3G was very handy though.

iPhone 3GS - Big change!
One of the first phones to get a cortex A8 (could've run @ 1GHz+ without impacting battery life much) PowerVR SGX535 GPU, double the memory, digital compass, a good 3.2mp camera, etc.
The only parts taken over from the 3G was the case and screen (probably a mistake by Apple, a newer design would've made a bigger impression)

iPhone 4 - Completely new phone.

iPhone 4S... ???

edit: I hope these cases are on the money! 7-8mm at the top, 5-6mm at the bottom? Sexy...

I just want a retina display dammit! Hoping for an influx of cheap iP4's on eBay.

My money's on the 4S becoming the lower priced one (iPhone 4 down to the cheap one ala 3GS but with a speed bump), with a new design iPhone 5 taking the flagship role.
