Hard drive prices going back up?

I was looking to get a couple of 1TB drives at around £40 each, got paid and went to look at getting these yesturday and they have gone up to £70 each!!! know i can only get one, not good......

Glad I got an F3 1TB a few weeks back when they were, £40. Ususally works that when I buy hardware the price drops the next day.

AS was said above.

It's unlikely the prices will go down within the next 6-9 months. In fact, if most of the componant factories and the major HD fabs don't come back online within 6 months (which is likely - as most are still under 10ft of water and there are no signs of it receeding) then expect the drives to increase to 90 or even 100% more than they were a month ago.

Me personally - I can't see HD prices coming down for at least a year.

From what I've read, it looks like WD (who usually ship 60million drives every 3 months) will only ship 1/3 of that from now until xmas. They are predicting even less from January if they can't get their main factories online again soon. At the moment they are making nothing in their Thailand fabs - and getting rid of a few weeks of stock. There are also serious shortages from the HD motor suppliers and spindle assembly manufacturers (who supply all of the main HD producers)

Looks like it's time for SSDs to get in on the act.
