Forza 4

very good demo
of course, lack of controls understandable - its demo, and i might say its even some kind beta demo,as i played it about 2-3 months ago in some event,so T10 definitely got further from this beta demo
physics really better than F3,graphics - i was happy with F3 graphics anyway
sound - this is the most noticeable thing for me - Zonda sounds just brilliant !!! POOWEEERRRRRR lol
Preordered my copy from GAME (LCE)
Anyone who would like to add me feel welcome - pushaz99 (playing mostly Forza and FIFA)
Cant wait till 14th october...

Im slightly envious since I sold my xbox just a few weeks ago and got a gaming pc instead. I put hundreds of hours into FM2 and 3 and will be sad not to play this too. Sounds like the demo is a hit with the fans in general.

I see the retailers are giving away a different bonus car with the LE pre-order, what car have you guys gone for? Or is there any cheaper than £59.99?

Not finding sim handling that difficult with the pad.

I was talking about the simulation steering option specifically, not the overall 'simulation' setting.

The simulation steering option has nothing to do with the actual physics/handling themselves, it merely refers to the in game car's wheels steering left to right in 1:1 unison with the position of the analogue stick, so pushing the stick left to right results in instant lock-to-lock of the in game steering. Nice if you want a challenge (you need really small and precise movements of the stick) but in reality controllers benefit from having some filtering applied.

Of course it's a different kettle of fish when it comes to using a wheel with the game, you want the in game steering to map the physical wheel position exactly, hence the 'simulation' steering option.

It's Game or Gamestation only for the LE. They're owned by the same parent company and you'll have to pay £59.99 unfortunately.

Bah :(

well,yeah,i will pay 75euro totally :(
the thing is - you can play it for year at least easily (i played Forza 3 for 2 years very often),so i think its worth, and as a car enthusiast i want all possible cars..
So for me its must buy anyway..

I can't honestly say I find simulation steering that different to any other racing game of this type when using the pad, certainly not noticeably

Hmm... OK, so I do a rivals lap and clip another car / overshoot a corner. Fair enough, try again next lap, but the hazard triangle stays on even after completing a lap? Why is this?

Also finding all of the cars just under steer constantly. Could be to do with my XBox wheel or settings but you can't adjust them in the demo.

Me neither.

That's because other games always have used the 'simulation' way of handling the contriller input, no other game like this had the 'filtering' of FM3 that I know of. That's why going back to FM3 from something like GT5 would sometimes feel like FM3 lacked steering response.

Simulation steering is the 'correct' way to do things, but the filtering of FM3 and the 'Normal' setting in FM4 does help to tame some of the 'twitchiness' that is inherent in using a small analogue stick in a driving simulator.

I thought they were a tad understeery too, using a pad and simulation steering. I don't know how these cars would be in RL obviously, but they do all feel slightly dopey.

Meh, it's good but I can't get excited about the demo like some. I need more tracks and modes for that. I also think I've been spoiled recently by getting a new PC for gaming, as even the modest amount of jaggies in this is bugging me, and I normally don't give a stuff about things like that.

Have you tried it with the steering set to 'normal'? (Steering only, leave all the other options as simulation). It may be that you are unintentionally feeding in too much steering lock, for the reasons I've highlighted. Just like a real car, if you apply too much lock you just get loads of understeer.

I can't say I've noticed any understeer issues TBH, the Ferrari does push wide if you carry too much entry speed, but that's a typical mid-engine trait anyway.

Just tried 20 minutes of back to back flicking between normal and sim on the Ferrari Rivals course, and genuinely can't tell much difference. Perhaps normal is slightly more forgiving, but I'm hardly struggling to control the car on sim, and the "understeer" seems the same level with both.

On another note, anyone found the general picture to be quite dark? I had to turn up the brightness on my TV to make out decent track/interior detail.

looking at all your comments about simulation steering would explain to me why i am getting horrific understeer. i thought the simulation steering on the pad would be exactly like FM3 while turning into the corner, but 1:1 while countersteering. might have a go with normal steering later :)

Just changed from Normalto Simulation, etc and I am still finding cars to under steer like mad. It's literally un-driveable. I've driven/competed on Circuits, Hill climbs, Sprints and never noticed any of the cars I've driven like it. 80mph Under-steer out of a corner in a Ferrari 458? The Scooby is also atrocious for this. Ruined it for me tbh.
