"alcohol is at least twice as harmful to users than cannabis and 5 times more harmful to society"

Nothing could ever convince the racquet of the home office otherwise, they are the ultimate dictator of the land they decide what people can do. They make too much money and it is like the virus software for anti-virus companies. The drug war is like fuel for a car for the police and governments.

heh I wouldn't say a 'bit' of anxiety, the first year or 2 I would have panic attacks hourly and not the common kind either, I was frequently in hospital because my heart would go like the clappers for no reason at all. Definitely not as bad as Psychosis of course, but I was in a pretty bad way with it :) You are right though and this is how I got a lot better, I was grateful it wasn't something worse and told myself I was lucky and made myself get on with it (with help from therapy/meds etc).

iv been smoking weed for about 11 years now, and iv never broken into anyone's house, murdered and stole from them, iv got a full time job, have a car less than 12 months old, girlfriend and a son, a few of my mates are in the same situation, similar stories, none have turned to crime for it, i don't have any side effects from it like a vast majority of people, but then its similar to alcohol, it affects people in different manners, the thing that always sticks in my mind, is the cannabis substance has never killed anyone, whereas alcohol.....well we all know the kinds of numbers that involves, the government wont legalize it, because they cant tax it, if its legal, then people can grow it themselves, just like we can make our own alcohol at home, i personally fell on the fence with this one, i would actually like it to be legalized, but, on the other hand, i think it would make it too easy for people to smoke it and go driving, now i know this already happens, but with it being illegal, it makes it harder for people to get, and less drug driving, but if its legal, easier to get, well i think it would produce more people driving after smoking it, which really affects your driving, i had to try it once in a family emergency and i was the only one with a licence, it was a horrible experience i do not wish to repeat.

According to many historians Cannabis has never directly killed anyone, in recorded history.

We have to deal with it, banning something just pushes it underground, prohibition proved that with alcohol.

Indeed, people who want to smoke it can and usually do. It may as well be legalised and controlled. It's safer for the end user and can make money instead of costing a fortune.

Good, just came back today from a long weekend in the best city in Europe - Amsterdam :)

Makes me feel a bit better about the fact im back :(

Of course, but it would still increase a lot more. It is less detectable as well, you do have the tests that can be done, but if someone who is drunk looks drunk, whereas a smoker just looks lazy and mega tired lol :)

If legalised, the government can make money from it. People will be able to buy it, without the risk of buying something nasty like skunk. People with cannabis problems will be more likely to get help. Alcohol consumption may decrease. The police will no longer have to worry about arresting dealers, consumers etc.

The original post implies that we ought to legalise anything which is less harmful than alcohol by at least two times.

Based on this chart, then, we should be legalising: Meths, Cocaine, Amphetamine, Something I Can't Spell, Ketamine, Methadone, Mephedrone, Butane, Steroids, Khat, Ecstasy, LSD, Something Else I Can't Be Bothered To Copy In, Mushrooms.

Really?

Lol, dunno how factual this is, but I was told that skunk is some really strong stuff and often people think they're buying something weaker

you pretty much always know when you're buying it as you're paying extra for it/your mate is extremely excited and saying how great it is.

like a nice bottle ale over carlsberg.

You'll be singing a different tune after an addict high on cannabis breaks in to your house in search of cash for his next "fix", and murder-rapes your whole family. It's illegal for a reason.

I'm not sure many cannabis smokers would have the motivation to do that :p
