"alcohol is at least twice as harmful to users than cannabis and 5 times more harmful to society"

google reefer madness :p

iirc rifftrax might have done a riff of it for extra lols.

It's a bloody urban myth! :p

And the term was coined in the film back in 1936!

Edit - the same population that thought war of the worlds was actually happening. xD

Lol, dunno how factual this is, but I was told that skunk is some really strong stuff and often people think they're buying something weaker

No, it's green, brown or sticky in my experience.

You do get different strains of it and some growers like to cross breed, although I don't know too much about this as the only plant I grew turned out to be a pesky male :(

There is definitely a huge spectrum of strength, there is no question about that, and the smell can be very deceptive. Some take longer to take effect than others, some last longer than others, some are more biased towards certain traits.

For example, some are very mellow and quite anti-social - not great, as for me it's a drug you don't use alone (although not the case for everyone). Others make you giggle a lot and you start to find normal things funny, almost anaesthetic in nature (think ketamine in small doses, N2O, valium).

As far as I can tell, from a reasonably lengthy experience and having sampled a lot of strains, there appears to be little to distinguish them in terms of side effects/after effects.

It's a bit of a box of chocolates, which I like as it's boring to smoke the same kind of bud for weeks on end.

In terms of green and skunk - I don't believe the hype about skunk being stronger. We tend to call bud either skunk or english, english generally being the home grown amateur stuff which is nice and mellow, skunk being the hydroponically grown stuff by professionals / large outfits. As far as I'm aware they germinate the same seeds, but skunk is grown on steroids, if you like (hydroponic setups supply the plants with exactly what they need on a constant basis, in scientifically measured quantities).

I certainly can't argue that there are no long term side effects, as outlined in an earlier post.

Should it be legalised? I think so, controlled in a similar way to alcohol. I can't say I'd like to see alcohol banned though.

As for addiction, well everyone is different I suppose. I smoke a lot but I wouldn't say I was addicted. In the summer, I spent a week away with the mrs and smoked nothing at all, and it was fine. Sleep etc. wasn't affected, although we did do a lot of costal walking (devon) and miles upon miles of canoeing, which probably helped, along with sea air. I certainly wasn't climbing the walls, and wasn't even thinking about it.

I think for me it's a nice crutch to get over my day at work, which is invariably traumatic at the moment.

You guys heard of "cake" effects Shatner's Bassoon in the brain and can give you "Czech Neck" swelling of the neck.

Nasty stuff

It's an interesting read, why do we still have this legislation?
I find it really weird that a drug that causes a lot of damage to society is still socially acceptable but a drug that causes much less damage is on the wrong side of the law and is criticised heavily?

Is anyone else tired of this war about this pointless legislation? I am not advocating legalising heavy drugs but I feel that this legislation is doing nothing but putting people in prison for a crime that is not causing any damage whatsoever.

It's all down to how much the government recieves from Alcohol as tax.

heh I wouldn't say a 'bit' of anxiety, the first year or 2 I would have panic attacks hourly and not the common kind either, I was frequently in hospital because my heart would go like the clappers for no reason at all. Definitely not as bad as Psychosis of course, but I was in a pretty bad way with it :) You are right though and this is how I got a lot better, I was grateful it wasn't something worse and told myself I was lucky and made myself get on with it (with help from therapy/meds etc).

Interesting, after a particularly heavy session I ended up with what I thought was a small heart attack triggered by lying on my back in bed with my right arm across my chest and rolling on to my left side, squishing my right hand against my left armpit/chest/heart area.
Ever since then I've had very slight moments where my breath has gone out from under me brought on by strenuous activity, caffeine or even trying to sleep on my left side again.
Any kind of general medical checkover has returned a perfect beat/pressure etc (by the time I get to the doc/hospital it will have passed, grrf).
It has been suggested to me that I have become sensitive to my heart after bruising the muscles around it and will kick into a panic attack.
I'm awaiting an appointment with a heart specialist so we shall see.

My point wasn't to turn this into a medical thread, but just to highlight that although the strain/drugs has more than likely not caused any physical injury to me, it has kicked off something which is going to take treatment to fix either way.

And lol @ le_josh's reefer madness gaffe! :)

Thanks for the insight ^ :)

No worries - bear in mind though that this is my personal experience/observation. All things like 'english' are what we call it round my way - I don't know if this is across the country though.

Of course, drugs affect different people in different ways.

Resin known as solid can be cut with different agents to get more volume. A little list of some of the more well known rubbish sometimes mixed in with the cannabis resin are as follows.
  1. ,beeswax
  2. , turpentine
  3. , milk powder
  4. , ketamine
  5. , boot polish
  6. , henna
  7. , pine resin
  8. , aspirin
  9. , animal feces
  10. , ground coffee
  11. , barbiturates
  12. , glues and dyes
  13. carcinogenic solvents such as Toluene and Benzene

Don't forget that little chunk of plastic that manages to hide right in the middle of the block.
Coffee powder and vics vaporub are the favourites round here.

this cake stuff is indeed a major problem, I hear it's even being talked about in parliament.

I remember bernard manning and noel edmunds going on about that.

It's ******* disgusting!

You can't really casually smoke weed tho, you can casually drink alcohol in moderation - the high (never sure why its called a high with canabis) with canabis is much more of an on/off thing for want of a better way to describe it.

lolwut? its a weekend drug for a lot of people just like alchohol is...

its not like you have to be smoking weed everyday like some crack fiend

thata not the reason at all. Big pharma companies do not make any money from their analgesic lines. They actually give them away free in bulk to wholesalers as part of promotions when selling their actual lines that do turn a profit.
one big pharma company makes a lot of money growing cannabis plants and putting the THC into a spray though and selling it at ridiculous cost ... im reffering to SATIVEX btw

As has been said countless times on this site alcohol has been in use and legal for many 1000's of years. Drugs are newer for the wider population and we still do not know the full effects of cannabis.

Your arguement seems to be there is something worse out there so let's make the lesser one legal. Pathetic.

I think a lot of people advocating it's use are users wanting cheaper drugs supplied with less fuss.

Good, just came back today from a long weekend in the best city in Europe - Amsterdam :)

Makes me feel a bit better about the fact im back :(

You obviously missed the news from the BBC that the Dutch are going to clamp down on 'drug tourism' due to the problems they have suffered from foreigners.
