A few benchmark articles have been released:

Techspot

HardOCP

Both of them bitch about how hard it was to test because of the ****-poor options menu :D

From HardOCP:
Performance in the Battlefield 3 public beta inconsistent. The multiplayer nature of the beta made it impractical to objectively compare performance between video cards, but we did see some relatively repetitive behavior among video card brands. In general, we had better performance using video cards equipped with AMD GPUs than we did with NVIDIA GPUs. We downloaded the newest beta drivers from both GPU makers specifically released for this game. We tested each video card thoroughly, and the results with AMD video cards were faster, but not by much in this open beta.

On the official BF3 Blog, EA/DICE staffer Joe Ellis pointed out that "The beta won’t include all the graphics features which will make it in the final version". When the final retail build is released, everything we've seen so far could be turned around completely. But for now, single-GPU gamers with AMD Radeon HD 6000 series video cards will probably see slightly better performance than gamers with NVIDIA GeForce GTX 500 series counterparts.

5970 is borked mate, causing endless problems since i purchased it, and pretty much everyones 5970 in the beta is causing performance problems, hence why my 5870 could run it all on max, except i had to use 2xAA instead of 4xAA, the 5970 couldn't even hack that, i had to turn all AA off and put everything on high.

What problems are you having?

I'm seeing around 60-110fps (60fps-90fps outside and 90-110fps inside, 1920x1200 most things on high) with my 5970. I've been getting artifacts which I think are down to poor connection with the thermal pads so I'm actually running the memory at around 800MHz down from over 1000Mhz.

Hi all looking for any tips from the more experienced players when playing in the first stage of metro, I am fine in the tunnels but utter crap in the park. playing assault class. thanks

Attack the bombsite 'together', in other words use your map and see where your teammates are going, but don't sheeple towards them. This should help you cover ground that is being watched over, and give you a chance to shoot folk by watching the left flank or right flank (yes it's great to be the one in front shooting everything a head, but you need to be a twitch shot and know where the likely camping positions are).

Yeah there back up. Time to order some new parts for when this hits. More ram and better cooling. And to overclock the 560ti i got or get another 560ti for sli.

But any way good game. First fps shooter on the pc i am enjoying for a long time.

Surprised about the only 20% difference in frame rates between a dual core and 6 core!!!!...considering how everyone in this thread was saying what a CPU dependant game it was..

I did try it with my Phenom II 550 in dual, triple and quad mode but didnt pay too much heed to how it played seeing as i am being held back by my ATI 4850 so much...

Who said it was CPU dependant?

I think the engine its self will run on multiple threads if it can, if not it will just use more of what's there. If you know what I mean.

When you unlock smoke grenades it makes the first stage a lot better to attack, just be ready for face to face combat lol.

Also use the wall-e bot as it can sneak past the front line and most guys don't even bother to shoot the dam thing lol.

The main thing I do see that the attacking team is doing wrong is when they are attacking they hide in one spot to stay alive longer hoping for area to be clear before moving up. (only way it's going to get clear if you move your *** and get stuck in the action :)

Keep up the pressure on the enemy and keep pushing forward even if it means you die a few extra times but if you don't attack the enemy will box us in :(

(Short version keep moving tactically to the mcom)

My performance boost was way more than that, probably 40% going from dual to quad-core

where the hell do you get that damn thing, scared the living beejeezus out of me last night when i saw it for the first time.

reminded me of the scutters (?) on red dwarf :D.

at high quality the GTX 580 is 8 fps faster than my 5870 and i was going to buy one think I ll pass lol ;)
