Going self-employed...

I really need to look up this kind of self employment stuff - I'd love to start a business and make my own money, beating the whole working for somebody else thing before I even properly start. But at 18 I'd have no idea what I was doing :p

Get a proper website done, not something that you did on your Mac. I'd also advise implementing a contact form into the site. However for site advice you're best off starting a thread in the Graphics & Programming forum if you haven't done so already.

I'm not keen on "Any business is much appreciated!"

It may be honest, but sounds a bit desperate! :p

If your going for that personal touch, then "No job too small" or something to that effect might be better , if thats not too cliche.

+1

It sounds very much like a part time job set up by a 17 yr old trying to have a go at running his own business.

You need to get it right from the start.

Keep it short and simple

"On-site PC repairs"

No-one wants to know your only just starting out. hey I want someone with experience looking at my PC

I tip my hat to you sir.
Good job so far.

I keep reading your logo as GDI Computer Services. :o
Might just be me being daft though?

You've let the Mac build a website utility thing put your @me.com email address into your contact page

Ohhh didn't see that cheers. ;)

EDIT: One of my mates does freelance website design so he's going to do a website for me when he has time, I just wanted to get email/domain sorted out first.

Yeah, it's and important thing to have right as it will make a big impression on your customers.

If you're not a web designer or artistic it is hard to get right though. I know a lot of start ups can find it hard to spend money on.

Good luck with the venture

Thanks. :)

What do you guys think of the car sticker?

I found putting testimonials on the site helps. I created an account on FreeIndex which is a good listing site anyway and get people to submit via that. You can then just copy on your site what they put in there. A bit more reliable than only having a copy on the site which I expect many companies make up.

Glad you didn't put the ridiculous part on the site which I see a lot elsewhere - "No fix, no fee" - nothing sounds more cowboyish than saying that imo.

Testimonials is an excellent idea. It inspires confidence in potential customers. Which is what you need as I'm sure calling a random person to their house may be a daunting prospect for many. Perhaps put a picture up of the red Mini with the stickers on it - it portrays a quirky / friendly / fun image.

I believe for these types of ventures being professional and polished isn't always the most important aspect. E.g I've used this chap a few times: http://www.anypcfixed.co.uk/

He operates from his house and he's doing quite well.
