Convince me to buy a Civic Type R (EP3)!

Taken I've seen that red motor too, close to me as well so you must live in Market Drayton or near? :) I've been discounting red cars (even though milage/condition/price they're the best value) as it'll be too much hard work for me to keep it red! But some are better value definitely it seems.

I'm just outside Tilstock, near Whitchurch :)

Nighthawk Black or Cosmic Grey are the two best colours IMO, Milano Red is nice, but I'd not be happy with the paint fade.

Why is everyone surprised with that?

The current book on these cars is quite low (don't ask or flame me) but the dealer's are not paying more than that to exchange these cars with them and that affects the private values. Sure it might've been a nice car but that's the price they (sadly) go for.

Just tried Sky Insurance for a quote. They won't even quote me.. I'm too young to own a Type R at 23 apparantly.. and I'd have to have driven it for atleast a year before they'd cover me at this age.

I even explained that i'd been driving since I was 17 and had Zero Accidents, but have 0 NCB acrued :(

This leaves the best quote for Insurance at around £980 from Admiral. I even explained that i'd been driving since I was 17 and had Zero Accidents, but have 0 NCB acrued :(

Spending £6500 on a car then another £1000 to insure it for the year when I cover 6000 Miles a year at best? I'm finding this too hard to Justify!!!

I wouldn't spend 6.5 on an EP3 personally - so by spending 2k less you've got it more for insurance. But 1k is good for a 200bhp hatch with no NCB!

I have to pay that for one and im 23 with 4 years ncb!

I was paying £1400 with 3 years NCD at 24 and nothing else to declare. £980 sounds very good to me!

I'm now 26 with a MK1 MX5 and that's £1k, albeit with a DR20 on there.

I personally would go for an older or higher mileage example in order to offset the insurance cost. These really are solid reliable cars and I don't see the appeal for the newer ones apart from the premier edition seats. 6.5k is too close to bottom of the market FN2s for my liking and feel in 12 months time that I would have been better waiting to buy one of those instead of paying a lot for a newer EP3 which is a ~10 year old design in comparison and will have probably lost a lot of value by that time.

That's a good point could get an FN2 soon, [Ed Stark]winters coming[/Ed Stark] and this thread already shows an 08 going at 8.1k. Bitches love FN2's.

Personally I aggree, spending that much on an EP3 is pointless, may aswell get FN2. Don't start sprouting all the rubbish about the rear beam etc. Drive one back to back and see if you REALLY notice the difference.

I've heard they have pish rear beam things.

Avoid :D

So the FN2 has a rear beam? I see no problem with this.. the 306 has a rear beam and does just fine in the GTi etc

It's a step down from the EP3's rear suspension but it will still go round corners fine. But you do get a bigger boot for your loss! :)

the FN2 mings hard!

I second that, Even hate the interior.

I'd be looking at a cheaper ep3 myself, if careful when buying it, it's unlikely to be unreliable and what are you really missing out on?

I quite like the FN2 now. A friend has a Milano Red one and even though they all say they aren't quite as quick and don't handle as well as an EP3... i was impressed :D

Certainly if you are looking at spending circa £6k then i personally would look to be getting something a bit more modern, the EP3 is looking a little dated now (even facelift IMO!) and spending that ammount of money on one seems daft. I'd spend £2k or so as other have said and pocket the rest for insurance or modifications.

Yeah it has a beam but in some cases beams are proven to actually give better handling. Obviously its more often IRS that's better however before everyone jumps on the OMG BEAMS THE LOSE bandwagon.

Interior is very marmite, the seats however are a million times better than the EP3 stock ones or face lift recaros. Give one a try before you blow lots of coin on an ep3!
