Leg cramps at night

I get leg cramps in my calf muscles and after an attack the muscle still hurts days later.

I use Crampex Tablets from SuperDrug/Boots etc and they really do work. Strangely enough, as it says in the instructions, I can tell the nights when I will experience cramps, so after an initial attack, if I think I'll get cramps, I'll take the tablets.

I've never had a night where I've taken the tablets and still got cramps.

I think a box of 48 CRAMPEX tablets are about £7.05

I also read that Sulphate of Quinnine can be used but that is a prescribed drug, Crampex are available over the counter.

And Bananas - Don't mock them, they don't grow on trees you know!
How do you know when an attack is imminent? Are there certain signs?

Google 'hylands leg cramps'

Been a life saver for this, look at the quick dissolve ones with quinine.

Are these like the Crampex ones above, or like an instant relief type of thing?

Will also look into multi vits - I don't add salt to food, either cooking or on the plate (hypertension). Maybe that is a factor?

Surprised how common it seems. It doesn't half hurt. I get cramp in my toes too, if I kneel down :o.

Still a bit tender today

Instant relief, takes just a minute or two to kick in.

I suffer with major back cramps at work as it's very physical, so as you can imagine these have been a godsend.

My protein sell electrolyte plus tablets that are also pretty good as a preventative, sometimes i'll take them in combination if i know it's going to be a bad day.

Have a look on the bay, there's a lass in the usa that ships 200 of them over pretty cheaply, i have bought several hundred already.

I get this, every so often. Usually only happens if, in my half-awake state, I stretch my leg and point my toe.

It's the only thing that is guaranteed to have me jump out of bed in an instant. Standing up is enough to make it go away - but yeah, my calf muscle is usually sore the next day afterwards.

Doesn't happen nearly as often now as when I decided to cut salt out of my cooking. Used to get it a lot then. TBH I only went back to using salt in my cooking again because it tasted **** without it but the absence of cramps has been a happy coincidence too :D

the other day i got off my chair after a long long session of gaming and as soon as i got up my side cramped up sooooo bad

i could feel the poo in my body and it was causing such an immense pain

i had a bottle which was the only thing i could think i could poo into cos i couldnt get to the toilet the pain was unbearable i thought i was going to pass out.

i dont know how, thorugh sheer willpower i guess, i got to the loo just in time

even then, i thought iwas gonna pass out again and somehow squeezed the poo out.

i really dont know why that is. its happened twice in two weeks :-(

Had leg cramps a few times. Very, very painful, but in a weird immobilising way. First attack was in my final year at Uni. Woke up in the middle of the night wondering what was happening. I couldn't walk right the rest of the day (or left!) so when me and my mates from Uni went into Manchester for lunch, they walked and I took the train. :p

Had my last attack a few months ago, just pure woke me up out of nowhere. Both times I found that my calf muscles were really tight and stretched so I did some exercises to try and relax them. If I never had one of these again, ever, I'd be a happy bloke. :)

Happens to me exactly the same, usually I'll wake up earlier in the morning then my alarm is set and I'll feel it coming on. There's a small gap in which I can stretch it out so I don't get it but it usually happens as my brain isn't active.

Absolutely kills, I'll also stretch my leg out, toe pointed out and just ride out the pain. Sensitive when I have to go upstairs at work later that day as it looks like I have a limp :o

Edit - Always in the thigh as well, never had it in my calf fortunately...I guess :/

When I get them, I try and massage the muscle, but it's like rubbing concrete :o I usually hop about, much to the annoyance of the other half (who gives me so much sympathy ). The cramp is so incredibly intense and painful. Bloody things

Eat some veg and all bran :)

I get them about 2-3 times per week but only the left leg. Which has had a ruptured Achillies heel, torn calf muscle and torn ankle ligaments. Could there be a link?

Had this once (and fortunately, only once!), it involved me rolling around on my bed for a few minutes thinking I might die, then it stopping and me falling back to sleep.

Had no memory of if the next morning, till I tried to move my leg, then I remembered! Hurt for a few days!

hasnt anyone ever had knee cramps?
i get these too
i wake up in middle of night and my behind my kneecaps, in the middle of my knee i get this excruciating pain

i cant move my legs because of this...feels like if i do it will snap, and when i try the pain remains for a few minsinto level 10 (the worst) then goes bak to level 5 (still bad.)

i dont know how but after like half an hour it disappears and i can go about my day.

will help a bit microwave is fine.

More fruit and veg is key.

do you buy your fruit and veg?

so like, when i buy do i buy enough for two weeks? one week?
i find that its quite expensive so i dont spend much on it unfortunately :(

but ive been told its because i only buy enough for like a few days.

also, how do you store it and how long does it last?
do i put all fruit and veg in the fridge?

Not sure if serious

Fruit and veg doesn't have to be expensive. Things like carrots, swede, broccoli, peas, cabbage, onions, apples, oranges, are cheap. Things like asparagus, raspberries, pineapple etc are expensive. It just depends what you buy.

Put it in the fridge and it'll last longer - like any food does.

If you're worried about it going off, frozen veg is just as good - there's loads of different kinds of frozen veg you can get.

I get this once a month. Wake up in loads of pain, rolling around the bed for a few minutes, then it dies off. A couple of times I have had to scream (loudly, always 'screaming quietly' because the pain was that bad :S
