Convince me to buy a Civic Type R (EP3)!

I am about to put a deposit on an EP3 (linked on last page) if its as mint as described, 62k, no dents, tiny scratch on bumper it's really nothing, verrryy few stone chips apparently, interior as new with no wear, oil changed every 6k with silkoline fancy stuff forgot the model name, FSH, just had a service, new mintex brakes all round, Toyo T1R tyres, 6 months tax 12 months mot, 54 reg, from some massive res pics it looks pristine for it's age and after viewing loads I'll soon know if its true or not... its standard bar Honda speaker upgrade from new or something with tweeters as standard? And a Magnex catback exhaust (oh and a vtec light, lol!)

I have agreed a price pending inspection and viewing/driving of £5150... after looking at loads which need money spending I think even though it sounds a bit high I won't have any nasty surprises or expense straight after buying as I will be skint for a bit :D Bit paranoid about spending £5150 and parking it on a council estate but oh well I should be able to get what I want.

I'm going to walk down from Aberdeen and just buy it so neither of you can have it.

Can someone lend me the money please??

Price seems good considering the suspension work and new wheels he put on, but I still hate him for buying it as I was going to drive down and buy it off the previous owner, but he beat me to it :p:mad::D

It's at a price that has failed to sell it for a few months now though :(

It's so painful selling a car when the markets so stagnant, anyone want to buy a Diesel Mondeo?

Looking at this more (facelift 2008 models), it seems that some come with 17" wheels, some 18" and some 19" RAGE wheels.

19" !!!! the cost of those tyres must be LOADS and won't that be really harsh on the ride? Just curious what size wheels are supposed to be standard on these and what are best?

Taken I noticed that one, I scour daily just incase lol, looks alright but I only really have 5k and I aren't too bothered about the Recaro's (sat in and driven my mates 240bhp one with those seats). So I will skinflint it a bit!

Probably worth a nosey that is though mate, we will end up getting the same cars on our watch lists I think :D

Flukester if it's bob on or the best I've seen I will put a deposit down on sat and collect the following week. Just gonna go off and read your thread now :D

I'm going to view it tommorow afternoon :)

Not too sure what to make of the price though! I know the Premiers command a higher price, and I'll pay more for it.. but the seats :D I mean.. the seats. They look so lovely :p

Could do with some opinions on whether that car is worth 6k or not please guys!

The seller is holding it for me at the moment until I've viewed it tommorow, apparantly some chap from Birmingham wants to give £6k for it and collect on Sunday....
Seems cheap for a Premier from what i've seen for sale before, but it all depends on Condition I suppose.

Looks good to me check service history is spot on and the usual gubbins. Listen for any knocks or snapping of the steering wheel and then it not centering. Burn in the back of the seat probably not a deal breaker. Not the best color in the world but looks good for the money.

If I was to buy another one, a Cosmic Grey Premier would be the car of choice, best colour and spec IMO (well, bar JDM Champ White:cool:)

If it ticks all the boxes when you view/drive it make a take it or leave it offer and stick £5800 cash in the sellers hands. The chances are the buyer from Birmingham is a bluff. If they've been offered the full asking price and a guaranteed sale 1 day later then they'd of gone down that route, not told them to wait for a call on sat to say if it's still available or not.

Unfortunately I won't be able to test drive it.. as I've no Insurance that will cover me on it as of yet. Any super important things to check? Main ones I can think of are all it's major Honda Services for Valve Clearances etc.

The Birmingham bluff had crossed me mind when she mentioned it.. Seems very odd considering there is a 'Buy It Now' on the Ebay listing, which you think the chap from Brum would have clicked

looks good Taken, could everyone stop buying civics :D

They've been a sweet spot for me for a few years, I've not driven one yet. But I'm Willing, or is it stupid? Enough.. to take a chance!

I love the way my 306 HDi handles (GTi-6 suspension virtually) but the Diesel engine is just too... uninvolving now. Even if it is remapped and intercooled (150bhp & 200+ Ft/lb)

You need to drive one mate. They are fun, they will disappoint in regards to torque...but they are awesome in the zone, not super quick but fun! That one is on the money, I suppose it should sell quickly. Almost makes me feel like I'll be paying too much if I agree a deal tomorrow.

If it's in good nick, you'll soon know. Theres loads of dogs. Don't let stone chips bother you too much... they are all sufferers :(

Print this if it's any use, I'm taking my copy with me tomorrow, just a collection of bits I know I need to check: http://www.illusional.co.uk/stuff/civicguide.doc

It's only worth what you feel comfortable with. I've never had a car over 2250 so to me 5200 for the one I'm viewing tomorrow is a lot (it's up for 5700). It sounds perfect bar some stone chips but it aint got aircon, is a 54 reg, 62k, oil changed every 6k for expensive silkoline stuff, as new inside, one tiny scratch on the back bumper and a few stone chips but no dents or other marks. T1R's, new mintex brakes, FSH etc etc...sounds pretty much as good as I will get for that money.

The 75k service can be done for around £250 or less from some indies, tdi north for example.

Check the doc I linked to and it'll prompt you.

Shame about the fag burn...
