Fair enough but do you not pay any attention to DICEs words about this being very old code and a lot of the issues people are seeing they knew about before the beta was released and have been fixed already?

Im not having a go, just asking if you genuinely don't believe them?

i genuinely don't believe them based on releases of bf2/2142 and bc2.

one of my main questions with the "beta" is if its being used to test server loads why haven't they run any 64 player maps, i can't see how it will help running 32 player metro ?

If indeed this is purely client side hit detection then expect it to be the most exploit and cheat ridden game in the history of on line gaming.

Pretty sure it does, unless i read the description wrong.

All I can find is this on http://battlefield.wikia.com/wiki/COVR

COVR is a specialization in Battlefield 3. The combined effect of field experience and advanced training reduces the suppressive effect of incoming rounds.
The solo specialization is unlocked at rank 14, while the squad specialization (SQD COVR) is unlocked after SQD EXPL.

Mind you it's a wiki, so it might as well say COVR will make you more successful with the ladies, and will guarantee a long profitable career in formula one :p

I think it is being exploited a lot already. Last night, I kept demolishing this one guy. Suddenly he starts killing me anywhere on the map! On the kill cam it shows him lying down (as if dead) but with his gun sticking in the air with 100% hp.

Plenty of times I've shot full clips into people and nothing happens.

The headshots are POINTLESS, I have to empty a full clip into someones head for it to be a bloody headshot and sometimes it doesn't even register!

Guys, can we have some perspective?

Despite the problems we absolutely want fixed the game is still fun to play, even if a little frustrating at times.

The Beta build is not perfect, and none of us have played the Retail build so some of these problems might not be anywhere near as pronounced. I'll still be playing when it goes live because I am having a ball playing, even in a buggy beta.

Just a foot note - I am not excusing Retail builds being released buggy and 'incomplete' I think it is slack and demonstrates a lack of care. But if the game is going live ANYWAY I'll still play it before it gets patched. :p

I wonder why they didn't release the more up to date version for beta testing? It would have made more sense to test the latest build not some buggy old version.

Because it was more of a Demo to appease the masses/Origin pre-order folk than actually a real beta. Beta a few weeks before release is not a beta.

Probably just easier to release this build which was playable rather than package up the latest build for the sake of 2 weeks.

If they are struggling they should just delay the game and release a sound product. But I guess they have to release it before MW3 even if it means releasing a buggy game. I have a feeling its going to take a load a patches, akin to when BF2 was released to get the game up to scratch.

they arent struggling its a beta build we are trying not the finished article . the retail game will have the usual few bugs on launch what doesnt on pc ?

look at any recent big game all have patches shortly after launch . its normal nothing different . only thing is its a big game and like cod when it launches its easier to whine about a game than say its great :p.

pc gaming lol :D

It kind of explains why they arent showing Ping in game, it would be apparent that the high ping players would be constantly doing better.

As someone who is part of a community that is renting a server I'm left wondering what exactly I am renting. From the looks of it, its not actually doing much other than acting like a switch, replicating packets to each client and handing out death commands to clients on the say so of other clients. Its not a far cry away from being P2P imho.

Because you have a rep :p

Maybe but everything i've said right back into BFBC2 has been honest and spot on. Server issues?, no wait it's my system it's my fault. Advance a week later, affecting everyone else and guess what a new server box and it's fixed. Hit reg problems and rubber banding?, yep it's my fault again it's my connection. Oh look a EA dice patch for bfbc2 fixing rubber banding and hit reg issues and ofcause the chat. How about the knife in bfbc2, yep yet again it's my system it's just me it's my bad aim... Oh but look a number of users have posted on youtube showing knife failings and check out the montage videos how people can knife others through a wall.

LOAM about the ping situation, people with a 200 ping or worse shouldn't be allowed on the server

'Bad netcode' must be the most misappropriated buzz phrase in the history of PC game beta testing.

Funnily enough the netcode in the BC2 beta was amazing but it meant those with slow dual core machines were at a disadvantage because their CPU couldn't keep up with quad cores and send information back fast enough. It worked on a "first come first served" basis if you will.

As a result DICE changed the netcode in retail so that the server waited for the slowest machine connected on the server to complete its cycle and then calculated all the hitpoints. Thus anyone who had a fast machine was at a disadvantage because what you did was "deleted" as such due to waiting for the slowest machine.

BF3 netcode seems to be better, but I'll be interested to see how it's working in comparison to BC2.

" Hit Reg is god awful "

Why the hell are some people in this thread in so much denial that there is nothing wrong with it . There are even one or two claiming that it's perfect and have had no problems whatsoever with the game, which is BS

because neil my ol mucker "we" dont all have bad reg as you put it .

a lot of gamers blame anything when not doing good online . oh its the lag oh its the servers oh its next door oh its not me and my underspecced pc with poor connection :p

seriously though how many dont adjust to any latency difference ?

does anyone actually do this anymore ?

its not hard if the server is slightly higher ping or worse latency wise you aim a little in front or to side. not hard but cause so many rage quit as its easier to do so you cant adjust. i know many who do this instead of just slighlty adjusting your aim which if your practice at youll be better player allround and wont rage as much.

every server online isnt the same and cant be. deal with it adjust . thanks for listening :p

I'm no expert when it comes to net code and the like but the hit reg in general seems a lot better in BF3 compared to BC2. There have been a few occasions where I've fired into people and nothing has happened but that could be down to a beta bug, I don't know.
