AMD Bulldozer Finally!

Not going to spend a week going thro every page this thread is way to longggggggggg but any idea if the bully is going to basically bully intel chips?

Basically does anyone know yet what they going to be like before I decide if worth upgrading my MB to amd one or intel one. I am not looking for top performer but best bang for buck and future proofing. I know amd tend to be best budget cpu's just wondering if they following the trend.

Just wait...for how long no one knows :)

ASUS Sabertooth 990FX normally is $200

I'm guessing the 2 bundles that don't have the cpu listed are the FX-8120 & FX-8150.

Yeah, listings appeared all over the US and Canada, last night.

Looks like October the 12th is probably right.

Apparently the FX-4100 is going for $110-120. Bearing in mind that's fully unlocked, and if one is able to unlock it to a 6 or 8 core ..... that's a steal.

Because it is :p

i can't believe theres 5 threads about BD. why can't people just ask the questions in this thread?

also theres very little results (if they are true) to say how it performances and whats better.....

The cynical side of me says that because there is so little "actual" benchmark info about BD, BD may not be all that some people are hoping.

I think Drunkenmaster did mention earlier in this thread that BD (first version) isn't likely to be great, but the later evolutionary iterations (using the same architecture), will be significantly better.

We shall just have to wait and see.

A bit like Phenom then, the first one was a bit of a stinker.

Yeah, sometimes things like this happen.

I remember the initial P4 series of CPU was not that great. I think the IPC were terrible compared to the P3. Then they released the revised version (Prescott, I think) and that was the real deal.

I think this was the one time I moved to an AMD platform, simply because Intel's P4 was nothing great.

I think Piledriver will be the start of Bulldozer's glory days. I think the 1st gen Bulldozer will probably keep up with the 2500k.

I've gone 2500k (now the i5 has been improved) for now while I gauge the 1st gen Bulldozer in the real world. If I like what AMD are doing and the performance is around the 2500k/2600k. Then I could see myself moving to a matured Piledriver on FM2.

I'll just sit out the 1st gen and observe it.

AFAIK,one of the improvements with Bulldozer will be greater energy efficiency which in theory should get better with Piledriver. It will also mean a decent alternative for people wanting a powerful SFF PC like me. OTH,it depends on how many AM3+ mini-ITX motherboards will be released. Socket AM3+ seems not to have any 900 series mATX motherboards ATM.
