EA are intending to update FIFA 12 more regularly and thoroughly than any previous entry in the series, they’ve announced – with the first patch for the Xbox 360 and PS3 versions due to arrive in 2 to 3 weeks. But even before that they will be taking steps to sort out the bugs plaguing FIFA 12 Ultimate Team in both the game and on the web.
“The general message is we’re looking at all of this stuff and we’re going to be fixing them very, very soon,” senior community manager Romily Broad said on the official FIFA 12 podcast.
“Things are different with FIFA 12. The first patch for the console is going to be coming out within days, like maybe 14 or 21 of them. Two or three weeks from now the first patch will happen and that’s going to make big corrections to some of the things that are bothering people the most.”
The FIFA 12 Ultimate Team feature has also proved to be a problem for many players, with it crashing the game for some on all three platforms, and EA intend to introduce a fix for that as soon as possible. Broad did reveal that EA had been intentionally capping the number of people who could access the web version of Ultimate Team, though, to try and prevent crashes due to the enormous demand following FIFA 12′s unbelievable sales success, which explains the inability to connect a number of users have reported.
A PC patch will also follow at some point to correct issues on that platform, and EA are keeping a close eye on people deliberately controlling keepers online to allow the outfield AI to play for them in Head to Head Seasons matches – “People seem to be exploiting this,” Broad said. “If they’re not very good at defending they can use this to get an unfair advantage.” Thanks to Eurogamer for the heads up.
