AMD Bulldozer Finally!

Well I guess I can start saving for my 2013 upgrade now :)

During that time, I can see how bulldozer is performing. Maybe it might see my move to AMD again with piledriver.

I always seem to upgrade on the 2nd gen CPUs and sit out the 1st gen.

FM2 is what Llano's replacement is still scheduled to occupy, from what I understand. The idea that Piledriver (Komodo platform) would be on it was from 1 leaked (and unverified) slide. If true, I suspect AMD were developing it and Vishera (same chips, but on 9xx chipset and AM3+) in tandem, waiting to make a decision. Going with AM3+ is obviously the right decision.

I ain't trusting AMD on this one unfortunately - I've learn't my lesson when early slides showed AM3 890chipsets being slated for BD. They then changed it to AM3+.

Theres nothing to stop them changing it again for piledriver either. Personally I'm sticking with my CH4 until the socket after am3+

I'm sure BD was on AM2 road maps too :p

i would like to skip upgrading to ch V and go to ch VI if it is new socket, upgrading mob every time new cpu comes out bit expensive, specially u led to believe like we were that bulldozer was going to work fine on am3 so hopefully bulldozer work fine after bios update.

It's already been confirmed to work on CHIV with a BIOS update (which IIRC is already out).

Even with the new module design where each core has shared resources compared to a traditional core, I honestly didn't expect the IPC of a single core to drop compared to Phenom II. I also didn't expect it to rocket to Sandy Bridge levels but I'd have hoped it'd be the same or slightly better. :/

Wait, so a 3.6Ghz 550 gets 4151, but a 3.6Ghz 1090T gets 1.04  I must be missing something?

Edit: ignore, Cooper posted as I was typing :p

No it won't.

Phenom II was on a smaller process, clocked better, DDR3 Support, new platform, etc etc.

That slide was well fake, it had spelling mistakes, incorrect information etc.
How is boxing yourself in on a platform a right decision?

I'm seriously hoping Pile driver gets removed from AM3+ and they go to FM2.

Because you believe spurious reports about performance being totally crippled by remaining on a platform very similar to 7xx / 8xx?

PCIe-3 is totally unnecessary until 2013 at the earliest. DDR4 won't be coming any sooner. Perhaps you think another couple of hundred pins would make a huge difference?

You'd rather they make a couple of tweaks to a platform which renders it incompatible with previous ones (a la Intel), whilst offering no substantive performance improvements? 1155 in most regards is almost identical to 1156, and could have been socket compatible, for example.
