Nexus Prime

I bet it will be not very long at all.

The XDA people will not allow such a delay and with the current trend of leaked "official" Samsung ROMs (currently 2.3.5) I can't imagine it taking long either.

ICS will likely be very different to Gingerbread, and as we have seen with CyanogenMod, there are still parts of the GS2 Gingerbread ROMs that cannot be AOSP'd yet.

I'd also wager it's not in Samsung's interests to get an official ROM out soon, because ICS is one of the Nexus Prime's key selling points, and they don't want to dent its sales.

The hubs etc do not consume any battery if they're not being used. I have never used them and at no point have I ever seen a Samsung app listed in the battery usage screen of Android! Now I just rmeove them via Titanium though because it just makes my weekly backup a bit cleaner (and smaller).

The only thing that did was Wi-Fi sharing but there was a bug with that in an old firmware and was fixed a long while ago.

We're talking about the Prime not the SGII. ;)

Em, just look at how much battery life is taken up by the wireless hubs or whatever it is called (aren't they running at times even when people aren't using it) and all for the GS 2, hence why people have solely rooted and put titanium on to freeze them as they were killing the battery life big time.
:D

Erm the wifi-sharing bug was fixed in KF3 Official ages ago - nothing else kills battery.

I'm talking TW here not HTC Sense

And not everyone can afford to pay outright for a mobile like a few people here that will cost £350+, so contract is the only way and all networks that I know off (apart from o2) put there crap on it.:D

You don't have to buy it outright - go through 3rd party sellers.

How likely is the Prime going to be sold through networks - AFAIK the nexus s wasn't.

Im trying to decide what to replace the nexus one with at the moment and I agree with a lot of your points. I have given up on roms as 99% of them have issues in themselves and issues caused by a lot of software that runs on top.

You would flash and it would be fine for a few days and then a few little niggles would be found and then you realise that your nice keyboard software is dead and crashing every time you try to type.

If people want to understand the battery life on android just have a look on the developer sites. Because of the extensive use of live data and constant updates in a lot of smartphone software, its necessary to wake the phone periodically to retrieve info.

This requires turning on the radios, fetching data and updating as needs be. Say you have 30 applications all wanting to do the same and they are all set to run at 5 minute intervals. Potentially you could have to boot up the radio 12 times an hour or potentially 360. Thats quite a large range. Things like this will be very important to your battery life.

Exactly.

Iirc it took a while for it to be fixed though and as I said before if it wasn't there in the first place, you wouldn't have had that problem and many people would not have had to root in order to install an app to fix the problem.

It applies to every mobile company that puts their custom skins on and own apps, not just touchwiz and also as I said when the first user and expert reviews came out I said something along the lines of "wow this really is a great mobile software side of things, it seems pretty much perfect with regards to speed and especially smoothness and being able to play movie files easily etc."

I have nothing against touchwiz for the GS 2, I am simply saying that without it and just pure stock android experience the speed and smoothness should still be very similar if not better than what is with touchwiz (despite not having as good of a GPU as the GS 2 and that could also be why they didn't bother with much better specs in regards to the CPU/GPU in the first place as there isn't any need to as it is more than enough power for the next year or 2 and in doing so they would only be adding even more to what is going to be an expensive mobile [of around £500, possibly a bit more]) and I am sure that battery life would be better as well since you don't have touchwiz stuff in the background (it runs deeper down than just an app, they have modified stock android to their liking which could be more taxing on the hardware than what stock android is e.g. all the widgets, the GPU acceleration throughout the entire system, all the other little things, which will affect battery life)

Also why is then that nearly every stock ROM I have seen for the desire etc. have better battery life than the original ROM or a ROM that combines both and also generally seems faster overall as well, and usually seems the one with less problems (especially with apps from the market)?

Ah yeah true forgot that you could go through the 3rd party ones on the webbie.

Was it not an exclusive deal for o2 first and then after like a month or something the rest of the networks got it iirc. (except 3)

a little disappointed with the spec :( how reliable is the source?

for me this will need to come in around £450 and me be able to sell my S2 for £300.

do very much want a stock google phone.

I would be surprised to see this mobile priced for much less than £500.

Can anyone remember how much the nexus S was when released?

£150 much over the S2? Can't you just install CM or similar instead?

To be honest those specs don't look bad at all really. People seem to expect the second coming every year :p

The screen is sounding really nice, even if it is pentile. My only issue is at 4.65 inches it just seems a little bit too big, really content with the size of my SGSII; so much so I don't think I could go bigger or smaller now.

Serious question guys.....im thinking of ordering the iP4S tomorrow. Will this Nexus Prime be better?

iP4S or Nexus Prime????

That depends on two things.

Do you want Android or iOS?

Do you want a big screen or is 3.5" sufficient?

Also, this isn't even officially announced yet, so it's hard to say until it is.

I couldn't get use to Android on my SGII and that's why I sold it. I'm hoping v4.0 is more my liking...?
Lack of apps and customisation is what bothers me on Android....

A bigger screen would be ideal.

Well, Android on the SGS II isn't going to be a world apart from this and the apps will be exactly the same. It will feel fairly similar although I'd wager the Nexus Prime with ICS will be quite a bit better than the Samsung take on it (TouchWiz).

You don't have to get a 4S immediately, try a Nexus Prime in a shop first and then decide.

As kona said OEMs keep the best stuff for their own brand....

Hey Olives, we needs some Motorola stuffs is whats we needs.. kekeke ;)

Because, saying Google on the back is AWESOME. I like it.

*ahem*

Behold the power of my pencil eraser

I think I paid ~£430.

Obviously never used a Nexus Prime, but if you sold your SGSII because you didn't like it then you will most likely be better off with an iPhone IMO. Like Robbo said try them in a shop when they're available.

Like I've said before I quite like TouchWiz and I don't think it is any worse than the stock Google experience, in fact some features just make the phone experience that little bit nicer.

I only rock phones bareback - covers are for botty-riders :p

You should see the front, you will be horrified (screen is perfect though :p)

wait and see what the spec are, however as much as i love android, and think touchwizz is quite zippy the s2 out the box has a lot of tosh on it! bloatware and painful apps/widgets.

on first boot up its quite overwhelming. pure android is a different experience, one i prefer.

Did'nt you have the SGS2 for like only 2-3 days? to be fair you did'nt really give it much of a chance.
