People smoking weed whilst driving.

Sure, it probably made me a better driver as demonstrated no 5th gear. I was far more concious of everything going on. Would I recommend it, no, I don't think people should do it, but to compare it to drink driving as if it is as bad is just silly, id probably put it on par with someone driving who had had a bit too much coffee.

Tiredness, Alcohol, forms of mobile phone usage and poor driving skills are dangerous, I would not put what I experienced personally any where near those things. Maybe some people have much different reactions to smoking the stuff, I know I haven't done in over 3 years now because I stopped enjoying it.

I'm not up for comparing both, though I am well aware that this comparison will undoubtedly be drawn at some point - I do, however, feel that taking any drug whilst in control of a vehicle is really rather irresponsible and selfish. Though, I admit that things like mobile phones, sex, and other activities one does in cars is also unnacceptable whilst driving.

People smoking weed while driving are scum, you can't justify it at all.

It does seem ridiculous to me that they're so blaze about it :/

There will always be those sections of society that have no real concern for you, themselves and have little to lose. I find drink driving terribly irresponsible yet it is undertaken by many, and not just low lifes either. I haven't seen people smoking weed whilst driving, sounds like something that is more prevalent in the bigger cities, London especially.

Tbh I'd rather be see a driver smoking weed but in control than a trucker completely sober but who's been driving for 20 hours without a break.

Saw one such the other week, he was meandering in and out of the hard shoulder and looking at the road through the bottom of his eyes (head tilted back a bit) because they were almost shut.

Depends how much you overdo anything tbh.

I really don't think it would be any worse than drink driving. Yeah, it would make your driving worse, slow down reactions etc, but not even on the same level as what alcohol would do to you. Copious amounts that is. 4+ pints or so. Hence why the punishment isn't that bad compared to drink driving despite weed being a class C drug, and why many people do it regularly.
1. Cannabis is a Class B substance
2. The penalties are the same for drug driving as drink driving.

Much harder to prove though.

As much as I'm not proud of it, I've been in a car whilist the driver was smoking sat in a small car park in the middle of no-where. A police van approached and asked the usual questions done the obvious checks told us to chilll out and enjoy and then left.

It was very very obvious what we were doing, this was a good 5 or so years ago now though.

At least you can spot them.

What about the people who drive home the morning after a night out? I'm sure there are quite a few people on here who have done that.

It's on par with drink driving. They're all irresponsible fools.

Well you're allowed to drink and drive but there is no limit for smoking so it's not really on par, is it?

It's like saying someone who has had half a pint is the same as someone who's drank half a bottle of vodka.

Not that I condone either.

Same in Birmingham. I come across these cars all the time now, if I can smell the weed so strongly from 2 or 3 cars back, how the hell have the police not caught on to them. Why do they care so little as well?? Pees me right off..!

If it's as bad as people are suggesting then it's only a matter of time before we get an influx of stoner related accidents (although, if it is that bad then when haven't we seen them already?) which will make the police be more vigilant.

Have you spotted this more recently? Or has this been around for a while? Over the past few years I had spotted it from time to time - but then again I spend a lot more time on the road now so perhaps why I spot it more...

I doubt it has increased much over the last 15 years.

I like what you've done there, people firing up a joint so you put that in. ;)

I can't say I've noticed the smell of weed all that much while driving around but you do a lot more driving than I do. I do find that when walking about every so often you get a huge whiff of weed and I'd always assumed it was someone also walking about but maybe it's been from people in passing cars and I hadn't linked the two as I don't really expect it.

Whether being under the influence of weed is better than being under the influence of alcohol while driving or not isn't really something that makes it ok to me. They both have an effect on you and alter your state of mind so should be avoided as much as possible when you might need to be driving - smoking a spliff while driving isn't exactly avoiding it or minimising the risks.
