Convince me to buy a Civic Type R (EP3)!

same with my Mondeo ST dag dag :(

Bad times!

You need to drive one mate. They are fun, they will disappoint in regards to torque...but they are awesome in the zone, not super quick but fun! That one is on the money, I suppose it should sell quickly. Almost makes me feel like I'll be paying too much if I agree a deal tomorrow.

If it's in good nick, you'll soon know. Theres loads of dogs. Don't let stone chips bother you too much... they are all sufferers :(

Print this if it's any use, I'm taking my copy with me tomorrow, just a collection of bits I know I need to check: http://www.illusional.co.uk/stuff/civicguide.doc

It's only worth what you feel comfortable with. I've never had a car over 2250 so to me 5200 for the one I'm viewing tomorrow is a lot (it's up for 5700). It sounds perfect bar some stone chips but it aint got aircon, is a 54 reg, 62k, oil changed every 6k for expensive silkoline stuff, as new inside, one tiny scratch on the back bumper and a few stone chips but no dents or other marks. T1R's, new mintex brakes, FSH etc etc...sounds pretty much as good as I will get for that money.

The 75k service can be done for around £250 or less from some indies, tdi north for example.

Check the doc I linked to and it'll prompt you.

Shame about the fag burn...

Thanks for all that Stormster, you're a great help. I shall print that off :)

I only just realised it's £260 a year to tax these though

Yeh tax rages me everytime I pay it. Make sure you get a firm price for your insurance on it. And ask him to take you out for a good test run listen for the knocks etc. You will feel it if it suddenly starts pulling one way but remember they do tramline badly anyway.

What sort of Excess should I be looking at? It's cheapest if I go for £500 voluntary and £250 compulsory.

EDIT - Just got a quote for £891.91 from Admiral :D :D

Insurance on these is fun.

I'm £270 this year as a future classic and £500 through a good broker for normal insurance. Excess is about £200 on either.

Tax is £215.

;)

Ad,

What limitations / differences do classic insurance policies have?

I'm 27, driving 10 years, never had any incidents, 6 years NCB. Current insurance is £480 on the DC2, hardly ball breaking but would be nice to lower it. My yearly milage has gone right down, in 12 months I've only done 6000 miles

Can you switch back to 'normal' insurance if you get rid of your car and replace with a non-classic?

Neg: No DOC, no accrued no claims, lose no claims after 2yrs of no car on normal policy, 5-6k miles limit.
Pos: Price, low excess, £6K agreed value, amazing service so far.

But you can alternate between classic and normal policy every year or 2 to retain it.

If switching to a non classic during policy then I reckon you would have to cancel. Still, cheap as chips so it isn't a problem. 480 is good, I was close to that up here with my quotes being 26, 8yr no claims, 9yr driving, parked on drive.

Your having a giraffe :D thats dog money mate.

10 months ago it sold within 2 days at £5k... no ones buying the buggers now.

Def a buyers market for you guys.

Awalys make a starting offer that the seller is utterly appauled at :p

What's the craic with the aftermarket drivetrain? What's it like over OEM?

the tax running out at the end of this month?

Bad times.. The chap I saw was very nice and friendly! Had a good chat with him.

The car, had been valeted before I got there.

Things that I saw on the car that put me off. Stone chips all over the front, with one that had made a slight hole in the Honda badge! Dints down both sides of the car, a scratch at the back.

Curbing on all alloy wheels, not the best of service historys. . . and Budget 'Primewell' tyres on every corner! , It also had some form of Aluminium pipe with a K&N style filter on the end of it.. and it was originally a company car with it's first owner!

Seats were Comfy though :p

I think I'll hold onto my cash until I find something that has been owned by one or two people who are either enthusiasts or mature owners.

Good man, thinking with your head - waiting for the one is worth it, there's no rush with the things the way they are.

Just the way it is.

306 Rallyes were going for 2k 12 months ago.

Sold mine for £1300.

You either want/need to sell it or don't and need to price accordingly atm!

sorry to hear that.... just as a bench mark the overpriced one i got has not got a single mark anywhere, not even stone chips so they are around.

i rekon totally stock fsh from honda dealer would be the ideal car... keep hunting, they are a real blast... only been driving for 4 days and still love the ctr, just makes you smile when pinging it off the limiter down twisty roads

Look after one like that and I doubt that will be a £4k car for a good few years. The EP3 is a great car and as soon as the bottom of the barrel ones get written off or turn into proper sheds then mint ones will always hold a premium!

Thats lovely but 7200 is a LOT of cash for an old shape EP3 in retrospect. I had a feeling that Grey one wouldn't be that good. You generally get a "feeling" from most adverts I feel.

I have done the deed and I am for some reason bricking it! 5k is a hell of a lot to a pauper like me and parking where I park will probably have me on edge for a while :D

Put a deposit down on the Silver 54 reg 62k miles CTR I mentioned. Good history from Honda, TDI North and the owner has done oil changes every 6k, new brakes, good tyres, drives fantastically, real tight and together, only a magnex exhaust cat back and it sounds good. Drives great. Inside is immaculate, all I will do is wetvac the front seats for perfection, its that good inside. Everything works. No rattles!!! It has an audio upgrade from the factory with tweeters at the front and sounds a lot nicer than the usual set up.

The absolute only things I don't "like" about it are a tiny tiny scratch on the back bumper which you'd never notice, a tiny tiny little chip on the sideskirt underneath drivers door and unfortunately some stone chips. Not an excessive amount but not a small amount. Can't be avoided.

Otherwise, no dints, no scratches, T1R tyres, Mintex brakes, standard apart from exhaust. Guy is 37 and had it 3 yrs, quite a sensible mature owner. He took us out just pootled around then he said I'll show you vtec. WOW these things HANDLE! I wouldn't dare push on round country roads like he was able to, but he wasn't mad about it, just real controlled and not afraid. Great car! I had a good 20 min test drive and its real nice.

Apart from those body issues (probably me being WAY WAY too picky, only the stone chips will wind me up long term, but its not so bad) it is pretty much perfect. All old MOT's, Honda check sheet paperwork and numerous receipts...

I hope it's a good one.

£5250.

Now I need to sell my Golf quick smart, can't even get £1600 but it's gonna have to go.

I'm a farmer GT3.. It will sit on the farm yard here and lose value unfortunately. It's a lot of cash though!
