AMD Bulldozer Finally!

If AMD were to take another 6 months increasing the performance of their new CPU (to come in line with expectation of users), they may be competing against Ivy Bridge (and not Sandy Bridge). They will then be in exactly the same position as they are in now.

And worse, they will end up not making money on their CPUs.

If they release the slower CPU now, they will at least get some money/revenue for the BD CPU, rather than getting £0 (for an unreleased CPU).

AMD are not a hug profitable company and they need revenue, this is why it is essential to get this CPU released asap, even if it is slower than the Phenom.

Of course but I was just talking personally.

This is one of the reasons why I feel that Intel will be around for a long, long time. Even if the microprocessor business was undone by Microsoft, ARM and non x86 alternatives (although that's a stretch of the imagination) Intel always have their manufacturing capabilities which are state of art. How long has Intel been rolling out 32nm CPU? 2009?

Mean while its late 2011 and Global Foundries are still trying to figger how 32nm works so by having such an advanced process over its competitors means Intel has their backsides covered no matter what the future holds.

But who's gonna buy it if it's slower than Phenom II?? I bet some retailers are regretting the amount of FX stock they bought already.

I'll wait for the likes of anandtech to publish some benchmarks, and then decide. Could be that I simply buy a 1100T x6, it really depends on pricing and performance.

Youre forgetting price/performance. Or even just price, i.e cheapest quad core (that doesnt require hit/miss bios unlock). There will be buyers.

Besides im still not convinced these are wholly indicative of the final performance figures. And even if they are, its still not doom and gloom for BD, just for some o' you lot. :p

You'll be surprised. They won't make huge sales, but there are plenty of people who queue up to buy 2nd rate products.

If you advertise a bad product...it sells. That is the power of marketing and is why companies spend so much money on advertising.

Or if you are screwed as you were expecting so much more, have been waiting excitedly for ages and are now feeling excited still but very much ready to be underwhelmed!

AMD the next Apple? Their marketing department is obviously less talented.

Even if you normally buy Intel, if BD does not perform well it's still bad.

I remember back in day when Intel kept the 486 DX33 high end for what appeared an eternity. 486 DX was top of pile for that long, the release of both their 486 DX4 and Pentium 1's overlapped each other.

If AMD don't produce CPU's people want, then Intel will release new tech less often.

I'll probably buy the 8150 if the specs are decent.

I like my i7 860 but moving to AMD wouldn't cost too much, and I could then look at SATA-3 based SSD's :)

Not really information but it looks more likley the BD chip will be out soon:

Can't link to the site because of rules but one of the OEM build compaines added this to their product line up today:

AMD Bulldozer FX-8150 Processor
ASUS®Sabertooth 990FX
- Military-Grade Motherboard
1GB AMD RADEON™ HD 6870
8GB DDR3 1600MHz Memory
1TB WD Caviar Green Quiet HDD
Blu-Ray Combo Drive

Everything points to the FX-8150 being priced a bit below the i7-2600K. Benchmarks seem to indicate it is barely better (worse in some cases) than the 1100T, which is much cheaper than that.

Where is the price/performance?

+1

I'm still not convinced the leaked benchmarks are a true indication of performance, for example:

The guy claimed he's an enthusiast, why did he not use the stock cooler
if(I presumed it's the same guy) this was the setup used for the live stream last night:

Why didn't he just take the heatsinks of the memory and run it in dual channel, they just unclip!:

Most of the the benches were using about 17% of each module.

At the end of his stream, the dos screen said it was an 8120, if that's running on single channel memory it's been gimped to give out false figures.

I'm not convinced either way until I see proper reviews using proper Amd approved hardware/software.

It would be funny if the figures are totally wrong and misleading and the 'doomslayers' that are ripping hell out of Amd(which could be warranted) would be doing a severe bit of backtracking!;)

Feeling better for buying the 1100T now...

I do hope these leaked benchies turn out to be a load of bullpoopings and it's actually much better than we think.

But at the same time I'm thinking it won't be :(

It feels very much like the 'Prescott' of AMD, power hungry and plagued by a long pipe and poor yeilds causing much lower clocks than expected. :(
