AMD Bulldozer Finally!

Also, if you're on the other forum, you'll see some very relevant posts being made, cat the fifth might see it, which imo cements BD being clock for clock worse than Phenom II (As well as other stuff I've heard/seen).

??? Wow! Cross-forums digs at me,how mature!!:p

I just quoted what was said on the one of the other forums at the time. As I mentioned on the other forum the reviews will up on Wednesday and we will know how it performs then.

OCUk probably arent pimping it as the stock levels for the European channel is very low (1000± i heard from a reliable source), so they may not have that many.

And when's that stopped them? Fermi was low yields as were the 58XX series.

I mean, you're on that forum now, so may have read it, as the majority may not know what I'm on about....

What forum? so I can sign up and have a dig at you over there:p

You mean what one of the senior guys said?? I saw that and I feel sorry that he got the wrong impression earlier in the year. It could be like with the Phenom I launch where AMD demoed faster samples to the press which were never available.

Possible major stumbling block for me: If I buy an AM3+ motherboard and a bulldozer, will the board require a BIOS update for it to boot up with the bulldozer CPU ? I do not have an existing AM3 CPU to pop in first to do a BIOS update

He's quite the bencher, and he's not the first person to have been demoed figures which seem higher than they are now, the PR event has results which seem much better than what we're seeing now, obviously AMD's been underhand here, as (From what I recall/heard) frequency wasn't made privy to them.

Solution, 1155 + 2600k ;), 8 threads and faster with an upgrade path.

Here's what he just said ;

I was hyped as I'd seen legit results. However in starting to think that perhaps these were not accurate. Yes there going to have an element of bias but they seemed fine.

I replied with ;

Don't you have an ES or something?
You sure as hell are going to have stock.

The fact your hope has diminished leads me to believe you've used it now and are disappointed.

I'm waiting for Wednesday with a grin from side to side.

I am hoping that we know what the original actual target clocks for Bulldozer were. I suspect Anandtech will probably have an idea.

Why did AMD not just release a Phenom x8 on 32nm? it would have at least given them a few years to fix Bulldozer or come up with something better. Compared to a Bulldozer core the Phenom 2 core looks great.

Funnily enough, there's an AM3 (May be AM3+, I don't recall) with a Phenom II X8 on its list.

Anyways, because the architecture will make "Adding more cores" easier, with lower die space.

There's nothing to say they haven't reached target clocks. It seems to clock fine, 4.8GHZ seems attainable. I think it's more their IPC.

They need to stick within a certain TDP range don't they?? If they were aiming say for the 125W TDP FX8150 to be a 4.2GHZ part with Turbo upto 4.8GHZ,then the shipping part would have been 15% to 20% faster. Of course this is all conjecture but we will soon find out. Even Llano ATM has relatively low clockspeed for the CPU part compared to a Phenom II X4.

The FX8170 is the one with the 4.8GHZ turbo isn't it?
I can't say I've been following too much on clock speeds.

NDA or not Gibbo & the other staff have usually started pimping a major new release by now ... even if its very broad generalized statements of hints they have usually started by now so the fact they are tight lipped this time doesnt look promising.

I would like to think AMD have pulled a major coup keeping the true stats secret but it just doesnt look that way from where im sitting

:cool:

NP mate, I just think AMD have been being firm on the NDA here as no retailers are winking or giving any clues...

Even if bulldozer is a flop, lots of interesting stuff coming from AMD over the next 12 months and retailers wont want to be on the naughty list (or worse)

Hindsight is great! CPU's take time to design and test.
It's fairly clear at this stage that BD has huge issues. The architecture was a risk and it doesn't look like it will pay off. It's not really surprising but it's not really as critical as it was a few years ago. Intel will have it hands full ARM over the next few years so I don't see them relaxing too much as they don't want to leave a gap open that Qualcomm, Nvidia, or Samsung could exploit in the performance sector.
