Someone will take them down, pretty impossible to stay up, no matter how good you are. 2 Stinger engies will cause serious problems for a jet, without taking into account any other heat seekers.

It's easy when you wait for the Jet to fly over the top of you, the Stinger takes less than 5 seconds to smack into it causing the pilot to bail, trying to wack them from a distance with a Stinger is another matter, you need one Engineer to do a dummy shot so they use their Flares, then you need another Engineer or two to simultaneously fire at the Jet, the Jet won't stand a chance, and this is where Squad play will shine.

spent all weekend doing just that :)

Just read this, some interesting changes some1 has noted:

Battlefield 3 Beta - "A Wellspring of Misinformation" Rate Article 13 October 2011 - 01:24 AM Posted By neged 9 CommentsIf someone asks you tomorrow about the Battlefield 3 beta, you'd probably tell them about Operation Metro, Caspian Border, and probably the major bugs you came across. Not that bugs should be a surprise, it was after all, a beta. The beta did receive a fair amount of complaints and bugs which lead some to wonder if EA made the right move with the Battlefield 3 beta. The beta had to come though, it was promised to those who pre-ordered last year's Medal of Honor. The final version is expected to be different from the beta as is expected. Arthur Gies of Joystiq states that the differences between the two are very large, but do bring positive benefits.

As it stands now, Battlefield 3's beta is a wellspring of misinformation about what your final Battlefield 3 experience will be.

Gies played Battlefield 3 last week at EA's Final Hours press event in San Francisco. The build he played wasn't final, but close to it. Noting that the gun-play had been improved, it takes a bit more to kill someone. In the BF3 beta, enemies simply fell over in a shot or two which was CoD like. The actual game is more BC2 like (Geis notes that this is better and we agree). The series is known for having it's true infantry battles where it takes skill, not just who got the drop first. This was also the case in BC2, it would take more than a pistol shot or two to take someone out. If you were snuck up on, you would at least have a chance.

This minor tweak in gun-play and damage will have a noticeable, yet positive effect on gameplay. When getting shot at or sneaking around, you'll have just that split-second more to think out a strategy. Also adjusted was vehicle damage to be more fair. During the beta it would take multiple shots to destroy a tank, but in Battlefield 3, it's more balanced to be more like BF2's tank mechanics. Well placed shots in BF2 could take out a tank in two hits. Despite the unexpected changes, most of them will be welcomed in the final version of Battlefield 3.

Interesting plus wierd, I PERSONALLY didn't think the amount to kill someone that bad? I don't see why a change was needed. Obviously, ignoring the netcode debates, some of which I have contributed to.

If you were snuck up on, you would at least have a chance

This is the only thing that really stuck out for me, if you get snuck up on...you shouldn't have a chance. Does that mean it will take more shots to kill you? You are warned somehow? ahaha...who knows!

FFS! The bullet damage was perfect! But I guess a change was to be expected when people moaned about getting killed too much. It's easier to just change bullet damage than it is to just, I don't know, get better! I liked that it promoted more careful play, it made firefights more intense.

I'm glad they've changed the vehicle damage, that was a little ridiculous.

By the way, does anyone know of you still get the free second game with Origin preorders that people were talking about, or has that stopped now?

Forgot to say previously, but one thing that irritated me way too many times was how getting the jump on someone who had a superior weapon to you, often meant you were the person who died even when all of your shots hit (mostly talking about pistols). There were too many times to count when I would shoot someone 3 times with a pistol (all 3 shots registering) from a medium distance, and they'd just turn around with their AR/SMG and spray me, and that would be that. Was total BS. In that quote above, it says, "if you were snuck upon, you would at least have a chance" - well, why may i ask? If you've put yourself in the position of someone shooting you in the back then you should damn well die. They say being killed with 1-2 bullets 'like cod' (only in hardcore mode), as a bad thing - but last time I checked nobody wanted an arcade, halo, shields, regen health etc. version of battlefield, I wanted a realistic one.....oh wait, would be too hard for the noobs, who would then not buy the game resulting in lost profits...now I see their reasoning.

- if it now takes even more shots than in beta to kill someone, then I certainly wont be straying from Hardcore.

Would be interested to know what this surround\eyefinity setup is running on gpu wise.

Saw this at igromir in moscow, looked awesome. The side screens automatically swing out to let you climb in, speakers in the headrest and bass in the base of the spine! :D

They did exactly the same thing with BC2 beta with people crying about damage and for me they epically messed it up doing that. I imagine yet again Beta damage > release. I guess its to much to expect people to actually play tactically with awareness rather than just running in, dying, then crying that everything is to over powered. What gets me is that everyone has the same gun choice. So long as each teams kit is balanced and there are no stand out guns then where (other than if your crap) is the issue ?

another journalist at the same press event said he thought it was even easier to kill people not harder !!

I'd take it all as subjective BS and decide for yourself on launch day.

Maybe it’s an artefact of the change in net code. It’s not inconceivable for different people to think its either gone up or down depending on what their experience of beta was.

Aye that's what I mean. 2 Engie's working as a team will be able to down a jet pretty easily, other jets will also be trying to take them down too.

It is easier in the BETA to stay up, since there wasn't much teamwork going on, but at release it'll take a little bit of comms and those jets will drop from the sky.

I'll be the support for hopefully 2 engies doing this, to keep them well supplied with Stinger Missiles

I think that's probably about right.

I was fed up of being dragged back several feet when killed, dragged back round corners etc.. due to the net code.

So it stands to reason that some people were probably finding it easier than i was.

Bullet damage can be taken 2 ways:

Reduced lag from BETA makes it so you'll kill faster
Removal of the damage bug makes it so you'll kill slower

In my opinion, I think they kept the bullet damage the same, and the removal of these 2 things gives a perception of higher/lower bullet damage.
