But there is no reason why the 4.2 wouldnt over clock to 4.8 as well? Are they basically identical processors?

Yes, but they haven't got the time to test all the processors in stock

Yes and Yes, besides, what if you have a worse overclocking motherboard than what they used? your mileage will vary.

They are exactly the same, expect one has been tested stable at 4.8GHZ.
There's no reason why the other won't do more.

You need to go with whoever has stock, you dont want someone debiting your plastic friend and gaining interest on it without giving you an item, only for you to get bored waiting and then requesting and potentially waiting for a refund.

Are you guys suggesting other sites may be advertising for pre-order with limited stock?

I would have thought if I preordered now on a site it is available that I would stand the highest chance of getting one. Rather than waiting until morning when it might be up on OC

Unfortunately that's neither right now.
I'm hoping that at least one UK E-tailer has stock.

We're saying they're taking pre-orders, which is exactly that, there's already been a lot of pre-orders on that site, you'd stand a better chance being one of the first to pre-order, so when OCUK put them up, be first.

Though, why not just be sensible and get SB?

The supplier posted in the pictures is a UK E-tailer. None posting pre-orders in the coming hours will have stock they are all accepting orders on the premis that they will be getting stock. So as consumers who can we trust?

I'm still unsure whether I should rush and order now or wait for OC

Possibly, from what I can remember of them for the past decade they aren't normally first with new products.

Either way, CPU's rarely launch the day of the first reviews. Even without a tonne of stock out there chips leak out to guys who want to do their own reviews, putting loads more in warehouses earlier won't help with that.

From what I recall, Sandybridge turned up between 2-3rd Jan in reviews on the major sites, yet no stock till the 9th, so a week later. Thats pretty standard for CPU's, more so for a brand new architecture than just a speed bump.

Difference is, CPU's across the range are in huge demand by OEM's, Gpu's in low/midrange are in demand from OEM's but high end gpu's are aimed almost exclusively at enthusiasts so often first shipments of gpu go to retail, first shipments of CPU's........ do not.

I'm sticking with my AMD build and I'm going to go for the 8150 even if it means that SB kicks my ass by a little bit

.... or a lot.

My main concern now is where and when to preorder!
