A mouse and keyboard controller for the PlayStation 3 will be making its way to store shelves on November 2, 2011. Licensed by Sony Computer Entertainment, HORI will be manufacturing the so-called Tactical Assault Commander 3 peripheral set, which sells for ¥9800, or US$127.

The Tactical Commander 3 consists of an optical right-handed mouse and a keypad for the left hand with WASD-style keys. The pad also includes an easy-access D-Pad comes attached with a palm rest.

Tracking resolution on the optical mouse is unclear, but it's doubtful that the mouse can match the capabilities of a true gaming mouse for the PC. However, the mouse will come equipped with a DPI/sensitivity toggle for more precise aiming.

Sony has not yet announced what games it plans to support with the peripherals at this time. It's curious to see if the company plans to offer mouse and keyboard support for first person shooters like Killzone 3 and Resistance 3, which would undoubtedly benefit from the precision offered by the peripherals.

looks really good

what do you guys think?

it will if you want to remain competitive in certain titles.

I've always been under the illusion that if you want to be the best at your game you get the best tools available, no?

Some people are tremendous at using a controller however. I don't think it will phase out controllers at all. And if tournaments allow them, great.

There's been enough tests to know that poor player with kb mouse batters the crap out of the best controller players. If u want to be competitive u will need this because everyone else will use one, so why not just play on pc instead?

Interesting, one reason shooting games suck on consoles and why I have and won't ever buy one, compared to on the PC is because theres no real precision aiming with a control pad its just spray and pray :p

it will phase out pads in the context of the hardcore competitive players, the majority of ps3 owners? no, but I don't think that's what Alphera implied.

Don't see the point, you want a PC then buy a PC? This will only cause problems online, I thought this was one of the big reasons MS don't allow cross platform online?

People with these will dominate COD pad players.

This will go one of three ways:

Everyone is forced to adopt to remain competitive, the PS3 gets rehoused over to the PC desk for the majority of 'hardcore' gamers.

The community becomes fractured and the online becomes even more sparse than it already is in non-COD/BF titles.

No one buys it and it dies a death.

A company is making it, that's all. It's not an official Sony product so I don't really see it being much of an issue.

People are acting like it's going to destroy multiplayer gaming on the PS3; I think a reality check is in order.

Just reread it, you're right, i assumed from the way it was worded it was an official peripheral.

Not that fussed then, FragFX tried it and it was rubbish.

I just want to use my KB&M so I can play with my Console friends without having to use a controller :(. $125 is steep for something I already own but not allowed to use 'cause it'll ose Sony money.
