*****Official Star Wars: The Old Republic Thread*****

Very nice projector. I also hate you. I will be rolling Empire :D

What are you thinking of the game so far? Does it live up to expectations? What classes have you played so far, and do they vary enough in terms of gameplay mechanics?

I'm assuming you can't reveal too much because of the NDA?

Haha, I don't want to risk my beta access to be honest...

That said, KoToR is my #1 game of all time, not a MMO Vet, never played WoW only City of Heroes - so nothing to compare it too.

I have managed to play with my friend who also on the beta and we both having a blast, yes - it's heavily story orientated but plenty of group missions - I will be rolling Consular when it launches so i've focussed more on EMpire side to not spoil my retail experience to much. Played a IA and SI to level 20+ and enjoyed them both, story for IA is good, but found SI more "fun"

What should Star Wars feel like?

Like the lightsabers actually have some sort of weight to them and aren;t just battle sticks or whatever :p.
Don't know, kind of annoyed that they don't cut parts of mobs off, or the movements of them from videos look kind of slow, clunky and a bit boring.

I hope not, wish they'd give me a bloody beta :(

Funny enough in game it works well, all the attacking movements look pretty good, sure as hell does not feel slow or clunky when you playing it.

I hope so, i'm sure i'll enjoy the story and sitting in a cantina with the music even if overall the gameplay is rubbish.

I wouldn't expect you to :p

Ditto for KoTOR. Absolutely adore that game.

I'm very happy to hear that it's heavily focused on the story. I was praying for a KoTOR experience, with multiplayer bits. In particular end game content to keep you going after the story is done with.

I'm no MMO veteran either, simply because the grind to the higher levels is so incredibly dull. Never bothered with them, so very high hopes for this now.

You say you've been playing it with a friend. If you were to play two characters from different starting planets, how would the story pan out? I'm rolling Bounty Hunter, while my brother and friend are rolling Sith Warrior and Sith Inquisitor respectively. I'm not going to have to forego my Bounty Hunter storyline to play with them, am I? Or is it a case of finishing your starting planet, and then all the classes follow the same quests on the other planets?

Thanks for the info. Much appreciated :)

They can enter all your story quests as long as they in a group with you. and ofc that goes both ways, the only story that you can not enter is if you both the same class...
..and you will not start on the same planet as them, it will roughly around level 9 that you guys can meet up again.

Does this mean if we want to play as a group, we'll have to choose between the Sith Warrior/Inquisitor story or the Bounty Hunter story once we leave our respective starting planets, or do all the classes do the same quests, but they play out differently in terms of the companions you get and the choices you can make depending on your character class?

There's an option to allow same class quest sharing, except you need to do it twice for one person, then let the other person enter first the second time.
If they changed that I don't know but there was 100% an option in the settings menu 2 weeks ago.

Edit: Hehe one of the leak sites has latest post showing interface options showing it under "General"

There are class only quests (specific to which class you pick), which you can join your friends along with as well as general "all class" quests. If that makes it easier.

I'm not really a Star Wars fan, but KOTOR I & II are quite possibly two of my favourite games... ever.

Does this look like it has the legs to reach WoW popularity/quality levels or is it a bit hit and miss?

Remember guys if you want to be part of either of the OcUK guilds then please sign up on the forums and then apply for either the Republic or Sith Empire guilds

Thank you :)

Would it be possible to use one of the three allegiance's with my small guild (12 atm) with ocuk's republic one? Most of us are friends, some of us frequent here and will probably go on the same server.

Wouldn't worry about that, I rolled IA as he wanted to try BH and they both start on Hutta - in a group you can join each others story missions (it's a bit buggy with the convo's though, you don't always see them as the other player (not a bad thing as I didn't want it spoiled) - so sometimes you just stand waiting lol...

But it's cleverly done in the sense that although unique stories the map locations are normally similar for each phase of the quests, i.e. first class mission is in area X for both of you - as you make your way there you pick up world quests with you - you do that and your next story quests is again in area Y (albeit slightly different, i.e if its in a building you might go left, they right) - all story stuff is instanced too - but we've levelled to 23 and only a couple bars of XP apart - and i've not been like "come over here I got this to do" - we generally go do our story quests, clear up world quests - cash in once finish and continue!

Starter planets you'll have to do solo if your mate is a SW - but you can 100% the starter world in about 8 hours (poss quicker) - at level (8-10) you can leave the planet (depends who quick you did class story) and then meet up for the remainder of the game :)
