like most gamers, i have bought a few games on steam but what happens when Valve becomes obsolete?

Would they give us a download to install our games purely on our systems or simply $%#* us over?

you lose the right to download all of your games again but you can still use offline mode :p

This is exactly the reason Why i like to buy a game, so you have a disk, a cd key, and something to show for your money.

The only games i own on steam is games that are only available on it.

Counter-strike..

Half life's..

Huge list aint it lol

We do not know.

Someone will trot out the "They said they will allow us to download all our games without DRM" but that is total ********.

Ultimately, Valve / Steam will not just "stop working" one day, it will be purchased by a combined Activision/Electronic Arts consortium ;)

exactly!

i have only purchased steam only games.

I like to have a disk anyway - to show off my collection haha

I take it none of you drive cars then? What happens if the manufacturer goes bust and you can't buy replacement parts for when it breaks down?
Valve won't be going out of business any time soon.

^there are a lot of growing competitors but i see valve staying strong for a long time yet

There probably is something in the small print.. but does anybody actually read it?

Thats a good point, But everything becomes obselete one day, tried to get a new tyre for a trailer wheel the other day, nothing new would fit it, so had to weld new axel's to it to fit new wheels :p

Steam is a "Subscription" service so kind of "Long Term Rent".

It is the best way for me to buy games at the moment so I do not give a ****.

there is more chance that your house gets destroyed with all your disks than steam going bust.

IF steam goes bust?

It will be purchased by somebody else as their service proposition at the moment is market leading with an installed userbase companies dream of.

Case in point.

Look what happened when Impulse sold up :) Similiar situation on a smaller scale.

The world did not implode and gamers can still play their games.

eh won't happen any time soon and I'm guessing by the time it does goes belly up I won't be using most of my older games so oh well.

Remember when Amiga and Atari where the height of their power and no one could imagine them going away. (Old Atari not the different company that rebranded to that name)

Who knows in 10 or 20 years Steam might not be around.

Not really sure what the point of this analogy is?
