WD release NEW **WDTV LIVE PLAYER**

I had a HTPC in the form of ASROCK 3D , top of range, but to me it was a overkill just to watch movies. Thats all i use it for, watch movie switch off. lol

I have WDTV Live at moment with 3rd party firmware and its solid but i do like the new features and built in WIFI! as this current gen when you plug in USB WIFI it drains the cpu in the unit and slows everything down!

Picked up one of these at the weekend (NOT the version the OP is on about ... :p )

Can't fault it so far :)

Looks great can anyone tell me if you can create folders with thumbnail images for ie movies you stream over creating libary looking effect as you browse?

Looks good. Fortunately my LG 3D TV has a USB slot so I can literally plug my 2TB external drives and browse all the media on the drives and play it without a problem!

Your lucky mate, thats why I bought the WD in the picture, cause I was sick of converting on the fly with my PS3 and also having to convert the audio if it wasnt AC3 for my LG tv.

The trouble with something like this is it'll be poorly customiseable and come with loads of crap I don't really want.

Can't comment on the OP's original version but the TV Hub that I recently purchased doesnt appear to be loaded with stuff that is ever gonna make it slow or unpleasant to use in fact unless you go hunting for it you wouldnt even know there was extra stuff on it. As for customiseable, not everyone wants to start changing things around, I just wanted something I could switch on select a film and watch it without any hassle of converting audio / movie format etc. and best still it's that easy 'she' can even do this without having to refer to notes :D

Yer I am tempted, largely because it takes the hassle out of using my server as a HTPC. And it would help the tecnologically challenged other half.

If its customiseable, its tempting. Any ideas when its going to be released (I'd want the op version with no HDD)?

I've just had a look and not found the new model...

Differences...well new version has wireless built in, and has a different interface but other than that not huge amounts really.
