I'll be attempting to use VPN to unlock the game using a free 3hr VPN trial from a so-so website, however i have zero interest in playing MP, just want to fire up the SP and configure graphics settings so its about right for MP.
The only thing required for the trial is registering an email address, if you have Gmail then you've got 2x 3h there (@gmail & @googlemail), so its easy enough to get basic access. Hell you could complete half the SP game this way.

As for online, do people really think that these VPNs, even uber ones, are going to be all that effective if your having to communicate via a US server, then depend upon its service to give you no/low lag gaming?? You'd have way more faith in it than i would! Playing on US servers might be ok, but EU would be crazy, UK to US then their connection to a UK/EU game server, and then back again to relay data. You'll get lag killed over and over.

SP yes, MP... not a chance, IMO anyway.
 
There are plenty of free VPN sites you can use, ones that will give you more than 3 hours and without having to register as well. You just have to search for them.

Good- I can play bf3 24/7 for foreseeable future until I get a job.

BAd- gonna take a lot out my saving and no money coming in.

Good part 2- At least if I have bf3 I dont need to spend any money for fun. I can sit in my room and play bf3 which is free barre internet+electricity lol

What are you currently running?
Im in the exact same situation job-wise, technically self-employed but unless playing games most of the day starts paying, might as well call it unemployed. Fortunately i managed to flog a load of gear ive been meaning to sell for about 4yr, funded the system in my sig.

I ran a Q6600 (@3), 8gb ddr2 & a 5770 in the alpha, medium settings at 45-50fps on Metro, at 2048x1152 resolution, so hardly bleeding edge hardware but respectable results at higher than FullHD resolution.
Im sure you could get the gear to put that together for around £200. That CPU will cut it just fine, just a matter of whether to spend more/less on a GPU, or even get something as a stop-gap then upgrade when funds allow. Im sure most people could upgrade to decent medium specs @ FullHD for £200-250 if they already have the basics (case, suitable psu, monitor, hdds etc). Without knowing your specs, i dunno where your at or what it'd take to get you up and running with respectable results.

hi

atm and for the beta was/am using

[email protected] oc'd about 2.8ghz? intel core duo CPU
5770 1gb HD
3x1gb ddr2 6400 ram

Playing at 1680x1050 on the beta on CB I was getting 15-40 fps at high but usually sub 20-25.

Playing about with resolutions and details I still never had the game at a level I woudl consider playable as in gfx wise and performance.

As for metro I never used fraps to record fps but it was defo playable especially the indoor sections which was more or less like playing COD 4 or something.

I want a new 1080p monitor also but its possible I may be able to play the full game with what I have? but I think CPU is big problem?

I have money for upgrade. I have decent savings. More than enough for a new pc. SO really its not a problem to spend it but for me I play all the other games no problem. I played Deus Ex HR a few weeks back full details and 1080p etc...So IMO this upgrade is soley due to BF3, which is a lot off money for 1 game.

My current PC plays all other games fine. I guess BF3 is a beast.
