I never used to have skin problems around my forehead/eyes
but I seem to get these horrible spots that last for days on end - Dr said it was acne

then they leave scars and it's so annoying and damaging my mating potential.

what cream or treatment have any of you used before that is successful?

I'm currently using quinoderm which has 10% peroxide I think but it's not working what can I try next?

Ask your GP.

When I hit my 30's I started to get bouts of recurrant chest acne. Dr said I needed more sun, but instead of getting me to go on hot holidays every year, he prescribed Tetralysal, which clears it up pretty well after a couple of months. I believe there is another procedure that will cure it for good, but it probably carries some risks.

I'm still suffering at 26 albeit not nearly as bad when I was younger. The best stuff I've used is Duac Once Daily 5%, it has 5% Benzoyl Peroxide but it also has an antibiotic in it, you can only get it from your doctors though. I've tried the Quinoderm 10% before and it seems to work for a week or two, but after that it didn't seem to have an effect. Also It dries your skin a lot which probably doesn't help

On the subject of scarring, I've got a 'rolling scar' (I think) below my nose on my upper lip due to a nasty spot, it's not gone down since it's appeared and I've probably damaged the skin, when I spoke to the doctor about getting rid of it he didn't seem to care much and said it would fade. Anyone know of a cream I could try to get rid of it?

lol at this :D

On a serious note, ask your doctor to let you try Oxytetracycline.

Great advice above - I had terrible acne as a teenager - probably why I am having such a massive mid-life crysis now lol! :D

Oxytetracycline worked for me too and it is the only thing that did.

Oxytetracycline. If that doesn't work ask for a dermatologist referral and they'll break out the roaccutane ( there is another thread in gd about that ).

I don't have acne, but suffer from greasy skin, which results in black heads and spots.

I've started using neat lime juice, basically, after a shower, or a good rince of steamy hot water, pat dry with a clean towel and dab on lots of lime juice. Let it dry off then clean off with warm water, and then close your pores with some splashes of cold water.

Seems to work well. The trick is to use a clean section of towel, each time so you dint spread the bacteria.

Lime, really? Sounds good Matty. I will have to try this :)

For just greasy skin resulting in spots (not proper acne) just use soap. Plain as you can get it (I use simple), it properly dries you skin out and for me at least has worked brillaintly.

Just don't use anything else (no face wipes, no moisturiser), just wash you face twice (or even once if you're lazy) a day with soap. Do that for 2 weeks without putting any other crap on your face and I bet you'll see results.

There are only 3 real options for genetic acne:

1- benzoyl peroxide twice a day for the rest of your life. Causes redness and may cause long-term skin damage. (not guaranteed to work)

2- isotretinoin for 6 months. Difficult to get hold of, side-effects: weakened immune system, dry skin, joint pain. (guaranteed to work)

3- natural foods diet / no more processed food/ no more sugar / no more grains/wheat. Takes several months to take effect. (guaranteed to work)

edit: There is increasing evidence to support the link between diet and acne.
