****The Official Samsung Galaxy S II Thread***

Yeah i have a lot to learn with this phone. I really do feel there is a massive waste of real estate on this theme.

Personally I hate touchwiz, You can get other launchers from the market place

Launcher pro
Go Launcher EX
ICS Launcher (if you want a icecream sandwich kinda look)
ADW launcher

There is probably lots more, I use Launcher Pro myself. The best thing is if you don't like something you can change it! :D

d_brennen: Sorry to hear that :( Have you tried linking it to a PC though?

Looks like i have a lot of reading to do.

- Find a way to from from screen off to desktop vie one button press.
- The default clock is just fugly. Needs to be larger and not raised.
- More icons on the desktop not a multi page system.

Looks like i need kies...

Think i'll make dinner first. I foresee a weekend of learning a new OS and some programming/skinning.

1. There is a way to do that with an app, i had it installed but found it annoying as i would unlock the phone when i went for a run with the phone in my pocket. EDIT: search for "No Lock" in the market.

2. Which clock?

3. Just go to your app draw and long press the app you wish on the desktop and let go of the icon where you want it.

The default clock widget. I found one called digital clock widget but it's a terrible font.

I probably just want it like an iPhone. I know it's probably heresy but it's very efficient.

all the clocks are crap, i dont know why people need such a huge clock on their phones anyway :p

I have this idea in my head what i want the phone to do and for it to act.

This is going to drive me mental. When i set up a htpc i ended up learning the UI system by reverse engineering a theme.

I seriously don't need this.

Can't believe just how good this phone is. Had it a week today and it's a massive step up over my Desire. Really decent bit of kit. For anyone still wondering if they should get it or not... just get it!!!

Since an iPhone doe'snt have widgets i guess you mean the clock on the notification bar?

I want a single screen of icons. Some icons will lead to sub-menus of grouped icons.

That way i can have all regular actions such as calls, messages and camera on single click icons. Actions such as settings, app market and other irregular actions are relegated to the sub-menus.

That way everything should take one button press 99% of the time.

It's how i have always set stuff up.

Overuse of the words "actions" & the phrase "That way" *check*

Should have got an iphone sparky:p

I kind of agree with the android home screen being pointless though, i'd rather turn it on and have a list of apps there, but most android users are nerds and they want a tool bar to toggle wifi/3g, battery info and the weather etc:p The main thing that annoys me is the huge centre screen clock, this must be like a backup in case you forget theres a smaller one in the top right of the screen!

Why you'd want that god only knows but here's how I'd do that:

First on the homescreen press menu -> edit, and then you can remove all but one screen.

Second I'd use the dock for your 'regular actions', already got Calls, Messages and Contacts, so go to the apps drawer, again menu -> edit, click and drag off contacts and click and drag the camera app onto the dock.

Then go to your homescreen again, long press and select Folders -> New Folder, enter a name and it will appear on the homescreen. Then just open the apps drawer, long press on an app which will then show your homescreen and drop the app into the folder.

Job done :)

Go away troll

Why would you want MORE clicks then needed?

I prefer widgets to icons, letting me see information without opening an app, so for me I have my homescreens (3-5) setup as:

Main screen = Calender widget over 75%, switchpro at the bottom
One to the right = full screen messaging widget
one to the left = (or used to) full screen gmail widget
further to the left (currently just one) = bookmarks

Then I have a scrollable dock which is currently:

Primary Dock - Gmail, Contacts, Apps, Messaging, Browser
Second - Market, Kindle, Apps, Maps, shortcut to navigation to my home
Third - Music, Google+, Apps, <empty>, Camera

That serves my purposes nicely, never seen the point of folders tbh, and try to avoid icons on the screens themselves (Although over time I generally have a homescreen kinda dedicated to random apps/icons :p)

Only widgets I use are PowerAmp and Switch Pro, the for the rest I user Go Launcher with gestures.

Phone (Swipe up for Twitter)
Gmail (Swipe up for Facebook)
App Tray (Swipe up for Camera)
Messaging (Swipe up for FB Messager)
Internet (Swipe up for Pulse News)

Takes care of around 90% of my usage with only 1 action after unlocking.
