Hazro series - HZ30Wi, HZ30WiQ, HZ27WA, HZ27WB & HZ27WC

Thanks for the answers guys. I will post up my own impressions once I have set up everything and tried some games out.

To be honest, the only system-killers for me at 1440p will be BF3 and Crysis (which I have already completed). I really hope BF3 will look okay if I have to drop to 1080p, but for MP I think I may have to. My card is a GTX480 btw.

I also have a load of "older" games to get through as per standard with anyone who has Steam e.g. Mass Effect 1/2, Portal 2, Batman:AA. I am sure these will run fine at native res.

Will the lack of a scaler on the WC be an issue if I run at the lower res? I would assume it just means black-bars for non 16:9 content?

I just noticed something odd.. if I use the DVI port and a 1920x1080 resolution with the scaler set to "normal" it fills the entire screen. Do the same thing over HDMI, it fills like 90% of the screen instead of filling it entirely.

I would assume the WC behaviour would be similar to that of the WD with 1:1 pixel mapping enabled? Which would be something like this (that's 1920x1080 with 1:1 pixel mapping)

But tbh, I don't know since I don't own a WC.

You might be right...I always assumed the Nvidia Control Panel would have an option to sort this sort of thing out, but I may be wrong if the display does not support it.

Anyone knows a good wall bracket for this monitor? i only find brackets that can't be adjusted in height ... i would prefer one that could be set higher or lower at will !

hazro does a dual stand for cheap and it looks fantastic.
problem is that they took it off their website back in june but told me in an e-m that it would be back in july.

but now its almost november so your guess is as good as mine.

BUT the stand they offered was AWESOME!!

OK just took delivery for 2 WC non-glass, one to replace my old Apple 23" cinema IPS and the other to replace Samsung 244T PVA and it's an improvement over both.

Colour is excellent and the image is crisp, my only gripe is the reflective screen but I can live with that. For £350 it's an absolute bargain.

Yeah it's all a balancing act. The glossy and smooth nature of the screen contributes towards the crisp image and the colours you see. Usually if people are going to have a problem with reflections they will notice that sooner rather than later so you should be fine. :D

On page 58 the following was posted
Some Updates:

New 27inch full HD 3D monitor ready which will share the same enclosure as the HZ27WC.

New fully adjustable stand almost ready for all our 27inch models - priced at £39.99 or thereabouts [price may increase or decrease].

New HZ27WB with plastic enclosure on its way - we've had to drop the metal casing to drop the price. Fully adjustable stand included.

New website due in November
So they're still working on that stand at least. Lets hope that it will be available on their new site as there really aren't any alternatives. Heck, I'm sure that if they use the VESA-mount holes for it that it will be a popular item with other monitors as well.

My non-glass monitor arrived today, and it's pretty awesome! A few defects though:

- My stand isn't straight, so my screen is slightly twisted. No problem, I put the instruction manual under one side of the stand to even it out!
- Mine has the yellow tint in the bottom right corner when viewing white (like the defective Apple 27" displays)
- I have some dust caught in the LCD (note I have the non-glass version) towards the bottom but 2/3 of the way in. I'd normally let this slip, however as it's inside the LCD it becomes illuminated by the light, making it stick out like a sore thumb when viewing any dark scenes.

I'm going to RMA this - do you think Overclockers will accept this as faulty? (Note it looks worse than the first picture shows, as it's a lot brighter)

Must say, the stand on my WD is annoying me.

It's so uneven that even the pressure from the cables (dvi, dp) behind it is enough to shift it slightly and am having to constantly put it back in position.

Will find some way of securing it that doesn't look rubbish though.

I had a problem with the stand too, the metal plate that fits in to the bottom of the stand had separated. I did not realise it was part of the assembly till I unpacked my 2nd monitor. :o

My WC arrived yesterday - prompt delivery service courtesy of OCUK/DPD, excellent as usual. Here are my first impressions:

Setup/Installation

Monitor was well packaged and secure. After removing the monitor from the box, and finding the screws for the base, it was a matter of laying the monitor on its side and attaching the base. Build-wise the base is not the greatest, but the monitor looks and feels beautiful to me. Also, the base seems to be perfectly level for me. I will consider a stand for this in the longer-term though.

Attached the DVI straight in to the second slot on my 480, and away I went! Only I didn't. In fact, Windows hung at the "Starting Windows" screen for so long that I got all flustered and started messing about with Safe Mode and Repair options. After twigging that there may in fact not be a problem (by detaching the new cable and starting up again with old monitor - which also seemed to be hanging for ages until Windows finally loaded), I re-tried and presto! Same Windows, new Monitor.

Initial testing (Desktop and pictures)

Without modifying any settings, comparing the monitor side-by-side to my old TN, the difference is simply gob-smacking. I am still in a state of doubt and slight confusion, because I am thinking "surely the old monitor wasn't that bad?". Still, the eyes do not deceive, and the image on the WC is much more vibrant, defined and...well, colourful. To corroborate this I copied some images and dragged them onto the old monitor and compared. The new monitor simply looks more life-like and photo realistic (for want of a better word). The final test will be the "wife-approval" one, which I will hopefully do tonight. Basically, that picture Hazro has on its web-site on the WC page comparing TN to IPS? Not far off. Not at all.

EDIT: So far no dead pixels or dust for me. I have not looked at it at the microscopic level, but not noticed anything untoward :)

Brief gaming test

So I am a gamer primarily, and everything else is just another thing I use the PC for. I love my FPS, be it BC2 or UT3. UT3 is one of the fastest games I have ever played and if there was anywhere that would show up input lag and blur, this would be it. I logged in and because the game res was set at 1900x1200, the screen displayed this with black bars at the side, but scaled to fill the screen. I did not play at this res however, because I wanted to see what the new res looks like in-game. I upped the res and joined a game. Of course, everything looks mind-numbingly lovely, and the flashes etc. from weaponry also shimmer that much more on this screen. In terms of motion blur, I can't say I noticed any at all, although the massive screen seems to contribute to an impression of shimmering when moving about the environments at speed. I still need to play further to confirm, but what I can say is that anything I experienced did not for one second put me off the fantastic image quality I have gained with this purchase.

HOWEVER, I still need to go at it for at least a week in order to reach a final verdict.

Questions

On the noob-level, something that slightly confuses me is that I purchased the non-glass monitor. Yet the monitor that was delivered has a clear message on the box saying "Warning - glass inside". Is this the case with all the boxes for the WC? Or did I get a glass monitor - is there any easy way to check this?

Final Word

So there you have it. I only had about 45 minutes with the monitor last night, but initial impressions are very favourable. I wanted to post screenshots comparing the quality to my old monitor, as well as of running games in a lower-than-native res, but have not had the time to do that yet. I will try and put them in a later post.

Let me know if you have any questions

The glass-fronted one has a screen that is completely flush. The bezels will prodtrude out on the non glass-fronted one. The outer polariser is smooth and glossy on this one too and is made of a glass compound - hence it having that kind of 'feel' if you tap it. I am sure many people will appreciate your initial thoughts and it sounds like you're really pleased with it. But just to reiterate something I have said time and time again. The extra vibrancy you are seeing compared to your TN panel monitor is the result not only of the IPS panel but also the smooth glossy screen surface which doesn't diffuse light from the monitor. In our recent review of the S27A750D, for example, the image was similar if not better in this respect than the excellent Apple Thunderbolt Display - despite being a TN panel monitor. It certainly handled reflections better and was less prone to bleaching, too. :)

TY for the information PCM2, very interesting stuff! Had another look and as the bezel is not flush with the screen, can safely assume it is the non-glass WC!

cheers for the first impressions Random Guy, just what i was wanting to read :) if you can get those comparison pics up asap i'd be truely grateful!

No worries! I managed to take one or two pics last night - wonder if the difference will come through on the screen-shots. I will endeavour to get them up here asap.

Cheers got the info random guy, that's the kinda post I was holding out to read before ordering, but ordered one anyway yesterday :D looking forward to Saturday when mine arrives, ordered the glass model since I had my last monitor 5 years and expect this one to last at least that long so I'm happy with the extra cost.

Distance selling regs let you return in 7 days of delivery no questions asked this may be easier than getting a defective monitor exchanged as faulty where they would probably inspect the faults and decide if it complied with their exchange policy.

For DSR contact them, package everthing back up in saleable conditions and return as per their instructions.

downside may be return costs (not sure but you probably pay those and may nor for faulty item)
