So i just upgraded my rig and am now very happy with everything , the final piece would be a new ssd as my 60 gig ocz vertex 2 is a bit small and well nopt sata 3 :P.

Which SATA 3 120ish size drive is considered the best buy ?

Crucial M4, Corsair Force 3 or OCZ Vertex 3. In that order.
Or if you're made of money, the intel ones - but OcUK don't stock them anymore.

I ordered a 128GB Crucial M4 to replace my Vertex 2E (never had any problems with it myself it's just too small). What is the easiest way to check the Firmware revision when it arrives?

Another vote for crucial m4

PCM2 Once you have it installed right click my computer and choose manage> device manager>expand disk drives tree>right click properties on the crucial m4>details tab> and I think if you change the drop down box to hardware ids it should tell you the firmware, if not just go through them all.

Edit

On my M4 it told me the firmware version on the back of the physical drive itself :)

Installed my M4 yesterday. It does seem rapid.

It does hang on the widows loading screen for around 1 minute on cold start-up, but I think it may have something to do with one of my HDDs I connected... hopefully.

Ah yes, says 0009 there on the drive. Good stuff. This is my third desktop SSD I have bought for this PC so I'm not as excited as usual getting a new PC part. :D

Why the Crucial M4 when its got a significantly slower write speed than the Vertex3? I'm aware of the BSOD issues surrounding these, but the firmware updates in the last couple of weeks from OCZ seems to have fixed the issues going by the OCZ forum...

Depends what you need the drive for. OS drive and programs, write speed is inconsequential. I'd rather have a drive that works than one that doesn't. I do hope OCZ have fixed their firmware issues.

Besides, it's not that bad.

I'm getting a M4 128GB.

Some people are still getting the BSOD problem.

As for the write difference, it's because OCZ uses the Sandforce controller while the Crucial uses the Marvell controller, which seems to be more reliable so far. Intel's newest SSDs seems to use the same Marvell controller as well.

I don't get it :( Why is the C4 so much better than the OCZ Agility 3? The Agility 3 has faster read write speeds, is it something to do with their poor firmware?

I also don't get this and the difference is huge! I'm seriously thinking about buying one of the RAID packs but don't understand why people suggest the M4 over the OCZ?!
