Hard Drive Pricing going up at an alarming rate!!!!

Hitachi Deskstar 7K3000 3TB SATA 6Gb/s 64MB Cache 7200RPM - OEM

I bought this yesterday morning from OCUK for £149.xx (which arrived today 9am - great service). I thought I'd just have a price comparison and today they are £187.99. I guess I was lucky to get it now, but how much were they say 2 weeks ago (if anyone knows)? Just want to gauge price increase.

Thank you for the heads up OCUK. :)

Was hoping to get 4 * 2TB drives but guess I will wait until the Spring and hope prices start to fall again :(

HUMPH!

Just had a Seagate 2tb barracuda green [st2000dl03] arrive.

It says "The Contents is Made in China" on the bag seal!

So why have THESE gone up?

Just because it says made in china, doesn't actually mean the whole thing is made in china. Thats usually wherethe final assembly takes place, and the rest is made elsewhere.

Think they were circa £120 Inc. VAT.

Drive prices are gonna continue raising daily unfortunately now, doubt it will settle until end of next week, but the way were going we could see 500GB drives approaching £100, 1TB's well over £100 and 2TB circa £150-£200 its going crazy.

Even with the increased pricing our demand is un-changed, infact its increasing. If supply does not improve to an acceptable level then pricing could literally sky rocket, lets hope it does not come to that and some drives start to come into the channel.

Problem is panic buying has made the situation even worse. Competitors are buying off each other etc.

Hi there

OK another warning as of next week you can expect the following prices:-

500GB - £70-£90
1TB - £90-£130
2TB - £120-£200

Pricing is going crazy, if anyone is still obviously cheap buy it, because the pricing is going bonkers. :(

Yeah, looks like they're about a day behind on the price hikes. Grab em fast! Personally, I can manage for a while by cleaning up what HDD space I already have. Was going to buy a 2TB drive a cuple of weeks ago but was waiting for pay day (tomorrow :()

Edit First World Problems, eh?

Not OCUK obviously but if a store hasn't updated it's online price and if over the phone they give you one price but the online price is much cheaper - do they have to stick with the online price?

I've ordered 4 Samsung F3s at £58 ex vat but when I rang to check stock they said £75 ex vat. The online price is the cheapest.

I placed the order anyway, if they stop it they stop it. Might be worth a punt :)

Thank you ocuk for the warning. As soon as I read this thread last week I bought 10 x 2tb drives for £65. I never would have been able to afford these prices!

I tried to buy 300x 500GB drives from a competitor at £30 each, they stopped my order and refused to ship them.

Nothing I can do, kudos to them for spotting it, they are now selling the same drive for £60 each, infact they've now updated that price to £80!!!!!

300 :D Probably a bit more noticeable than 4 :)

I've even splashed out on Next Day!

Quite sure I'll get an email or phone call. Still if not I'm a happy chap. I've got a couple of NAS boxes to dish out to remote offices over the next couple of months so worth getting them in now I guess.
