Nokia Windows 7 Phones

can't comment on the video recording but I'll take that, if you need 720p or 1080p then fair enough but I would suggest that the actual number of people who genuinely need that are pretty small.

The web page thing I do dispute though, my iphone 3gs was perfectly capable of having numerous pages open in the browser with out any slowdown. Although I expect I'll be told they weren't live ie updating.. who cares! I only have 1 set of eyes!

I wasn't talking about slowdown - I'm taking about keeping pages open in the memory - less memory means less pages you can keep open without going back to it and it refreshing because there was not enough memory.

nowadays 'good hd recording' (i.e. quick auto focus, colour reproduction, light metering) is important - everyone has a hd tv/monitors where it can be played back on.

Its all good then. You can have all the tabs open on WP and not have to reload when you want to view them as standard. In fact they are ready instantly whether you leave them for a few seconds or days.

Most WP devices can record perfectly good 720p video with all those specifications, in fact the new titan is suggested to have one of the best video recording ability of any phone. 1080p could he nice but the extra memory needed compared to the benefits over 720p is too minimal for me at the moment at least. If I want to record something other than a quick snap.ill use a proper video camera...

even with 512MB total ram? how so?

A HTC device that can shoot the best hd video of any device? I'll believe that when I see it.

Do you carry your video camera everywhere you go?

Am I the only one that is disappointed by this? I had to laugh a bit when Elop announced "first real windows phone"

Please show me. Both the 710 and the 800 were developed originally with another OS in mind - see N9/Meego and than just ported over to WinMo. Same goes for HTC and Samsung, so we havent really seen the "first real windows phone"

And seriously 16gb storage? You could do it in the N9, but the 800 doesnt even get an option for 32 or 64? Pretty much all phone contracts are now data capped, so who cares you get 25gb cloud storage when your cap is 1gb a month ...

I think leaving the FFC out is stupid, MS didnt by Skype for nothing, but not a deal breaker.

But 16gb storage and 3.7" screen is just not good enough. 4"-4.3" is standard for mid/high end phones and screen size does matter.

So now have to see if I hold out for the rumored "ace", but who knows when it will show or go with the Titan.

Bleh

^ I'm disappointed too but it's a step in the right direction... Can't wait for Apollo and specifically designed Nokia hardware. :)

The Titan's got one of the best cameras around (Probably better than the 800)

It uses the same Sony Exmor R (or Samsung 8mp variant) sensor as the iP4S/SGS2 and a decent f2.2 lens. However it does lack several features the newer S3 Snapdragon brings over the S2 (zero shutter lag, higher bit rate recording, 1080p etc)

Actually video recoding still blows but at least HTC have sorted out stills :p

Elop stated that they will be launching in the states with a range of phones next year. I would imagine there might be something special in the pipeline for the US as they are not getting the 800 with the rest of us.

Nokia have little brand identity in the US - Microsoft want the US market - The shareholders want US success. I am expecting a few new devices for the US in the new year. Hopefully a 4+ inch phone which we also get (just in time for my contract renewel in march)

Just seen these two patents, what does MS have planned.

http://www.wp7connect.com/2011/08/12/microsoft-awarded-patent-for-sliding-mobile-device-yesterday/
http://appft1.uspto.gov/netacgi/nph...5752.PGNR.&OS=DN/20110195752RS=DN/20110195752

Mobile communications devices having moveable housings are described. In an implementation, a mobile communications device includes a first housing that includes a display device; and a second housing that includes a keyboard. At least one of the first or second housings are moveable between a first configuration in which the first housing substantially covers the second housing so the keyboard is covered and the display device is viewable and a second configuration in which the keyboard is exposed and positioned such that an outer plane of the keyboard is positioned in a substantially similar plane to that of an outer surface of the display device.

So possible w7p next year with slide out KB.

Lol filed feb 2010, brilliant you have to love the patent system.

Also swappable keyboard patent

The slider design features an open area where the keyboard would traditionally be found. That area can be filled with a module that provides a second display, additional battery, game control, or a standard keyboard. Furthermore, except for the battery module, these modules would be able to function without being plugged in, potentially providing control of a smartphone while it is docked at a TV or monitor.
