** OFFICIAL Football Manager 2012 Thread **

Tummy, what roles are you playing Cleverley, Anderson and Fletcher? And what formation are you using? I've gone with the 4-2-2-2 I used in FM11 (4 defenders, 2 MC, 2 wingers and 2 strikers).

I'm playing a kind of 4-4-2.

Berba and Rooney up top, Anderson and Cleverly in the middle (or Fletcher) and Nani / Young first choice wingers with Valencia / Park being rotated.

Back four, Evra / Vidic / Jones and Van De thingy that I bought in (doing really well) with the entire back four being rotated with Fabio / Rio / smalling / Rafa.

De Gea first choice but only playing in the League and Europe.

I'm playing Cleverly as a much more attacking player, guess a bit of a play maker, and anderson / fletcher just doing leg work.

When Cleverlys out, I still play fletcher or Ando to do the leg work but play Carrick as a deeper play maker.

I'm after a centre midfielder, attack minded. Got 20mill to spend but there's soo many options. Playing with Man Utd as my warm up game. Want to play him where S is in the diagram below.

Well I am playing a very similar formation but with usually one of the MC moved back to a DMC - ie 2 x DMC one set as a Anchor and the other as a DPM with the MC set to BBM - I do play 2 x MC on occasion and use Fletcher and Cleverley with Anderson rotated in. Not really sure you need to buy someone.

A good formation for Man Utd to beat hard to open and lesser teams is Rio as a Libero with Vidic and Smalling in front as CD, Jones as a DMC, Cleverley as a MC (DLPM) + Fletcher as a MC BWM, then Park on the Right wing as a defensive winger (or Valencia) + Nani on the left wing as an inside forward, Rooney as a Treq on the right hand side dropping into the space Park leaves and then Wellbeck or Hernadez as a poacher. Get everyone pushed up - high tempo. You are always on the attack you keep their fullbacks pinned back and if their width attack is sweeped up by Rio if they ever get past Jones.

For European matches and hard domestic ones then play the Brazilian box and you seem to contain even Barcelona with Rooney + a poach striker good enough to snatch the odd goal on the break especially against Arsenals lethargic German purchase.

Milan Badelj, cheapish (5m) and good player. That's the formation I use as well.

thats the point tho, quality of player at a top team makes a tactic more workable, a good tactic is one that works with the quality of players you get for a lower team.

I'd disagree you fit the tactics to which players you have and what your opponent puts out. Pep would not use his current tactics at Birmingham would he it doesn't matter what you do you can't get Birmingham to play the Barcelona way. But then if you manage Barcelona then you wouldn't carry on the same tactics that work at Birmingham. A good tactic is one that works for the players you have at your disposal. Maybe this is what you are saying. What I am trying to say that unless you hit the editor then Birmingham should count a good result as being in the middle of the Premiership.

yeah it is about working with the players you have, what i was trying to say was the basics of the tactic should work with any team, in fm not rl.

if you can get your defence sorted with birmingham to perform well, then you know it will perform well with man utd as they have better players, you then tweak it to get the better performance out of your players.

you wouldn't be able to use a good barca tactic at birmingham because of the players , but you would be able to use a good birmingham tactic at barca because the basics are all in place and the barca players are more than capable.

The problem is making Barcelona play the Barcelona way in FM. You can't really transition between 4-3-3 and 3-4-3 like they do when they switch between attack and defense and I have yet to find a way to adequately increase tempo in the final third but slow and patient at the back.

I managed to get promoted through the L1 play-offs last night - cracker of a final (will post screenshots later) but won it 3-2 in extra time against Oldham, after I went down to 10 men! I love games like that.

The Championship looks like it's going to be bloody impossible. Transfer budget of £70k and a weekly wage budget of £52k :( Almost signed Joe Lewis on a freebie before he went off to Spurs (grrr) and am struggling for players. The thing that really annoys me - and I guess this might have been the same in FM11 - is that when you're in the Championship you have to pay 50% or 100% of EPL loan wages, and frequently a fee too. My max wage is £5k, so trying to loan any good young EPL players is nigh on impossible.

Tip - I suppose this depends on your database size, but by the end of the first in game season, the Russian clubs have a load of regens already and release a fair few. Offered about 10 of them :D but only one of them got a work permit. Thankfully it was the one I wanted, and I've now got a demon of a LB who's already the best player in my squad at 18 yo!

Started a game with Everton last night. Got off to a good start, made quite a few signings but sold quite a few players as well. Will put up a list tonight. Its hard having no money and positions that desperately need filling!

Had to verify the cache then it started working again.
I did that but it still didn't work, even after finding two files that were corrupt and re-fetched them. I tried renaming the ClientRegistry.blob as the SI Games' Forum FAQ suggested. That made Steam run an update as it loaded up.

In the end I deleted the game and reinstalled, only to find that there was a thread about this issue and that re-verifying the game files a second time seemed to work. I was a bit doubtful about the FAQ for game unavailable as the game had been working and I was sure it was the 12.0.3 patch that had broken the game.

However, it has yet to fix Ravel Morrison's attitude
What's wrong with it? You could always fix it in the editor?

So did it work after the second time?

Editor is cheating! And as for Morrison - well he is just a pain in the whatever he just chucks strops all the time and feels both Giggs and Nani could teach him nothing! And there was me skipping Man City as my easy English team playthrough just to miss all the Tevez hassle and I've got a teenager who is even worse but I suspect maybe a bit more talented.

Well I never got that far because that was in the thread regarding the effect of the new patch. The FAQ thread I was looking at said to re-install the game. So I did. :p It is now working yes. :)

Looked in the Man Utd data issues thread? http://community.sigames.com/showthread.php/276445-ENGLAND-(Official)-Manchester-United-Data-Issues

I remember for FM10 the Man Utd data researcher felt that the attributes and CA/PA set for Fabio/Rafael weren't quite accurate so he posted some figures he thought were more accurate in the club's data issue thread. We then changed the numbers in the editor. It's not always cheating. ;)

Morrison does look to be talented though, just a massive shame about his off-pitch antics and getting into trouble. If Fergie and his coaches can sort him out we've potentially another megastar on our books. I saw on some MUTV show after the Aldershot game someone ringing in and saying that a player is the best player to come out of our academy since Scholes. I missed the name but I'm sure it was Morrison because the two pundits mentioned his immense talent but also his getting himself into trouble outside football. As far as I know the only player who is both massively talented but also getting into trouble is Morrison.

Yep that's the chap - not sure all that talent is worth it though when they are so much hassle. Man Utd have some good young players though Pogba seems to be very good and is playing well in Cup games for me, Tunnicliffe is immense in my game although I have never really heard of him before and Cleverley is doing really well. Along with Welbeck and all the other more wellknown names. Which is a good job as with all that debt there aint too much money in the pot. Once I got Fellaini from Everton things just really fell into shape he has the presence to let everyone else just go and do their own thing.

Hopefully someone can make him realise than if he gets himself on the straight and narrow and meets his potential then he'll be richer than he ever dreamt of.

And at OT there does seem to be quite a talented group of youngsters comin through. Zeki Fryers played left-back against Aldershot, Pogba's going to get better. Amos seems promising in goal.

How much did you get Fellaini for? I decided to shore up the right-back position and get Darijo Srna. At £15m probably a bit expensive for a 29 year old but he's got a fantastic work rate and team work. With Brown and O'Shea gone I don't think I can depend on Rafael + Jones/Smalling.

I managed to get rid of PIG to Real Madrid for £1.2m and if I can sell Gibson for £4m (his current market value) then I can look to buy a cheap, but promising MC/DMC.

In my game Everton sell Jagielka for 12.5m and Fellani for 17.5m to city to get round that problem :p

Got annoyed though as Moyes blew it all on Shawcross for 12.5m and Cardossa for 12m when he could have strengthened the squad properly...

Im having a problem in the dutch league, im having loads of yellows and red cards even though ive got them on cautious tackling.. bugged me thinks. only in jan and ive got 41 yellows and 9 reds.

Found these at Fmformation

Data Pack It adds missed transfers, real competition names and adds the right team names for the Portuguese league, more types of injuries and more. The site is Greek but the pack/read me is English.

Real English Fixtures Adds the real life fixture list for leagues 1 to 5.

Vitreous 2012 Skin This is the best skin i have found so far, it looks great.
