The *Official* Eve Online Thread

I ground missions to pay for my account for a while... Then I realised it was much faster to work some overtime and pay for my sub that way ;) It's not a terrible idea, but it was one of the things that stopped Eve being fun for me. All MMORPGS run the risk of becoming like a job but Eve more than most I think.

I haven't paid real money for Eve for years, I just use PLEX's ...I used to run 2 accounts with PLEX but I can't be bothered with that anymore so just 1 now. It's easy enough to do if you have a little flare for industry, you don't need to spend too much time on it either to be honest, not once you are setup and running.

I often go several months without really playing 'properly' but I do keep my industry ticking over and it more than pays for a PLEX. Bear in mind I have been playing since 2004 though so I have plenty of experience.

Once you figure out what's profitable and what isn't and get a system setup for more or less constant production, it's quite easy to have an entirely self funded account ...more than one even.

Pretty well every other avenue of ISK making, requires more constant time input from you than industry.

I think this is one of the problems with this approach which is why I think if you are going to go down that route you need to be thinking Dominix with 2 x LAR with a longer term plan of using a rattlesnake. Then you can just have Eve minimised with a whole pocket agro'd and just let the sentries or heavies loose whilst you play whatever else or are reading the news or browsing these forums. I do this whilst playing single player games and it requires no more attention than trading but you are not having to waste your time learning non-PVP skills if that is your endgame. The Dominix is a very newplayer friendly battleship. You do need to check on spawning missions though as you will loose drones that way. But if you are like me and say play games 15 nights a month for 2-3 hrs then for 10 mins attention per night for those 15 nights I really can not think of a better way for a new player who does not have the knowledge to really make a go of trading/industry etc.

The other easy way would be to just run a set of courier missions every night on autopilot again requiring very little attention and whilst you won't get great ISK and LP from the missions you will get the storylines quicker and over the course of a month you will make your plex easy from implants.

I would say though on your gaming nights you need to be playing Eve the way you want to play it because if you are running this stuff in the background for no other reason that to keep training well then what's the point. If you are running stuff in the background to make some simple ISK for PLEX and shiny ships to have real fun then it is worthwhile and like Northwind says to be honest unless you are really broke then you are better off working in the realworld as you'll pay for a sub and be able to buy PLEX then if you so chose.

Have been playing 2 months now. Getting frustrated how long it's taking to get skills up. Trained Cybernetics to Lvl IV so I can use the +4 implants. Am playing Caldari. Have stopped at Battlecruiser until I get all my other skills to at least Lvl 4. I'm going to need to Lvl 5 some of them so that I can get T2 missiles (CN Faction is expensive).

I have a Flycatcher and a Hawk waiting until I can fly them. Ship progression is Drake > Navy Issue Raven, then Tengu.

What's the best way to start participating in PVP? I have found a good Caracal build, mostly T2 so cheap. Or should I go with a Frigate?

Best place to start is with frigates. a lot of people will tell you to cross train to the Rifter but theres no point if your only 2 months in you want to get out there. So grab a merlin or a kestrel depending on your skills.

[Merlin, Dualwebs]
Damage Control II
Magnetic Field Stabilizer II

1MN Afterburner II
X5 Prototype I Engine Enervator
X5 Prototype I Engine Enervator
J5b Phased Prototype Warp Scrambler I

125mm Railgun II, Caldari Navy Antimatter Charge S
125mm Railgun II, Caldari Navy Antimatter Charge S
Rocket Launcher II, Caldari Navy Thorn Rocket
Rocket Launcher II, Caldari Navy Thorn Rocket

Small Anti-EM Screen Reinforcer I
Small Core Defence Field Extender I
Small Core Defence Field Extender I

This would be a pretty decent setup for killing other frigs, web them down scram them and plink away at them at the edge of scram range. Good manual pilots will be able to shake your scram off so be ready with the overload. TD is also an option to help avoid dps.

[Kestrel, Rocket]

4x Rocket Launcher II (Caldari Navy Thorn Rocket)

Cold-Gas I Arcjet Thrusters
Warp Scrambler II
Stasis Webifier II

Damage Control II
200mm Reinforced Rolled Tungsten Plates I

Small Warhead Calefaction Catalyst I
Small Bay Loading Accelerator I

Orbit/kite and spam death pray you have enough dps/hp to kill them first :)

Obviously tweak these setups to what you can fit.

two months and already on +4s?
why?

What's wrong with that? Pretty sure my main was on +4s by that point and I had my alt on +4s in about 2 weeks or so probably!
Imagine he put his skillplan into Evemon and asked it to recomend remaps / implants.

Hehe when Vent and I started Eve, Evemon and +4s didn't exist, +3s did but they cost an arm and a leg relatively speaking.

Getting a character up and running is not a fast process, and there is so much to do these days, so many skills and ships you have to be pretty selective early on.

lol When I started you couldn't get ANY implants! never mind there being an API for getting the data out for an evemon like tool!
seems funny that a new player can access these items so soon (and or need to)
I'd have rarther sunk the time into getting better with guns but then if evemon says it saves you in the long run the so be it!

It's not like it's expensive - ISK is so easy to buy online. Think I've bought 4 or 5 billion ISK so far. My Drake fit cost 1.5 billion ISK alone.

If the implants mean I get the skills I need to Lvl 5 faster, then of course I'll buy them - you'd be mad not to surely?!

Not sure if serious, you do realise if and when CCP catch you you will lose all your ISK, i.e. they will subtract all of that ISK from your account even if you don't have it.

Edit : Unless of course you're buying PLEX for real money and selling for ISK then fair enough.

^^ and not many people do get away with it - I know people who've had the amount subtracted months later so if your in the game for the long haul its not a great idea.

Indeed, there's usually threads every so often where people complain that they are billions of ISK in the red on their account :D

Is it it bad I read that this and thought "1.5b Drake fit say what" first?

Why would you spend 1.5 billion on a drake fit I can think of plenty of better uses for that kind of money. For starters there are better ships. Also I don't know whether you have read the whole thread but the OcUK community will give you a return of 20% per week on any money you trust to our investment scheme. Let us know your IGN and we can let you know where to deposit the money ...
