Should people on the dole have sky HD?

I think a voucher system would be an idea, but adminisrating such a scheme would have its costs.

I've just got a new job after 4 months on the dole, the thing that grinds my gears is that after 3 months my housing benefit got dropped leaving me with a short fall of about 70 quid. And then you get scutters that somehow manage to run a car and have sky, that have no intention of ever working.

I would never have sky anyway, as I have better things to spend money on, but it does make me angry.

I think what makes most people angry is not the benefits itself, what you just said is a good point. Assuming you work 40 hours a week and are unfortunate enough to make minimum wage it doesn't matter, you don't get squat, so you have to pay everything yourself and still work hard 5 days a week. While these scoundrels get £500-600 towards their rent + £320 from JSA for doing nothing, so they basically make more money then someone who works 40 hours a week ,add a child into the picture and it just becomes ridiculous.

I think they either need to cut benefits or encourage people to work if they don't want to slash benefits. Because right now the problem is, these people might be scoundrels but they would be mugs to go to work where they'd make less money.

If only politicians didnt create the welfare problem in the first place, once you give, its very hard to take...without ruining a significant amount of voters .

do you actually know she's unemployed, or did you just make that assumption?

maybe she has a night job, maybe she's a hooker, who the **** are you to decide whether or not she has sky HD

and on a more important note why don't you concentrate on your own life because worrying about this **** you clearly have a lot of free time

it hardly costs anything, even people living in a mud hut in some slum, in india can afford to watch tv

This is Sky TV we are talking about here, and what a pointless analogy.

My opinion on this matter is that it's up to her what she wants to spend it on, you can't do anything about it, she could have spent it all on alcohol and fags so it's not that bad.

I don't think anyone is saying that they shouldn't be able to watch tv, whats wrong with freeview?

freeview can cost too, £150 to fit an arial then you have to buy the box..

you can get sky fitted for free, then you only have the monthly charge..

to a lot of people without much money, sky is the better option..

I get confused with society and how this country works, i hear this all the time poor gets poorer and the rich get richer but if your saying she out of work, probably on a form of benefits, probably pays very or no taxes, rates, billing (besides SkyHD) unless she claims for it inwhich i doubt idk how england work anymore is it a country for free-lancers idk

with all due respect to people who have sky, virgin etc it is something i would never ever pay for, working or on the dole. £40 a month for 400 channels of garbage? whoo!

the previous owner of my house had sky and i have an ugly dish on the front elevation because of this. they also never installed a proper aeriel so i have to watch my tv through a sky box.

£60 a week, man i worked and earned less then that working -_- i couldn't live on benifits i probally commit suicide or have to work in a chairty shop my dignity would just go completely out the window... i have worked since the age of 12 on as little as £1.50 hour doing manual labour.

edit 'Dignity as i couldn't be do what that guy on that BBC link does' lol

and what if she isnt, whats the point ?

Either way is or isn’t makes no differences really does it when the new system kicks in for JSA people?

If you’re on JSA for “x” amount of months then Job centre puts you on a placement scheme where you have to work 4-5 days a week and do job hours start to finish to get your JSA money

Guess the people who do sit there all day and watch TV and do nothing wont be doing it for much longer

no idea what the scheme is called but can remember reading a thread on ocuk about it and was on that TV show about jobs a few months ago job fairy or whatever it was called

Firstly,

How can you tell it's HD from hearing it?.

Firstly,

READ THE POST.

She is entitled to get whatever she wants. Maybe she want’s something to cheer her family up with. Who cares. Maybe you want to check her shopping basket because she’s not been to pound land. Do you expect her to sit all day long in dressed in sack cloth and whipping herself in penance because she’s on a benefit?

Secondly, this.
